1 - Logan's POV

I still can't help but feel like a giddy child every time I get to Platform 9 3/4. The hustle and noise is so much different than my life back home, where almost everything is quiet all the time. I come from a big family, but most of the time everyone is off doing their own thing, and we really only meet during meals, or when everybody cleans. Going to Hogwarts means that I'll have less time for that.

I come from a family of non wizards, or muggles, as they're called in the wizarding world. Being the only muggle born wizard in the family is a bit strange, to say the least. You can imagine the shock on everyone's faces when a random owl came to our window to drop off a letter to go to some "school for witchcraft and wizardry" during breakfast. The first trip to Hogwarts was - hectic - to say the least.

But now, I am in my fourth year, adjusting my yellow and black tie, going through the car trains, looking for Jalissa. Foolishly, I start daydreaming and while in the space between the train cars, I bump into a shorter boy, causing him to fall down. Dang it, it's been 3 minutes Logan, and you've already caused another student to fall!

I start apologizing immediately putting a hand out to help him up, but he simply swats it away.

Okay.

A little rude, but anybody would probably be salty after what just happened.
"Tsk. Calm down, I'm fine." He snaps. "Watch where you're going, you scuffed my shoes."

"Ah! I'm sorry about that, I hope it isn't serious-" I start to apologize again when he bumps my arm, definitely on purpose, before entering the train opposite.

"Well that was rude." I mutter under my breath.

I brush off the interaction with the petty short boy and head off into the cart he was, almost bumping into another guy, who looked carsick. Gosh, I'm just being really clumsy today, huh?

After a bit of searching, I find Jalissa with a book in her lap, like always. "Whatcha reading there?" I say, peeking through the door.

Jalissa looks slightly startled, before she laughs at the sight of me. "It's just a collection of short stories about Greek gods. It's quite interesting."

"Yeah?" I respond, putting my luggage in the compartment above the seats. "Which story are reading now?"

"I'm reading about Narcissus, it's basically about this guy who fell in love with his reflection, and then turns into the flower Narcissa."

"Ohhhh that's probably where the word narcissistic comes from!"

Jalissa laughs, throwing back her long black hair, "That makes a lot of sense!"

"..."

"You already knew didn't you?"

"Yeah."

I sigh, sitting down next to Jalissa, one of my only friends outside of my house. (Jalissa is a Ravenclaw while I'm a Hufflepuff) She looks at me for a hot second there, then just yells, "WHEN DID YOU BECOME TALL?!"

I laugh at the remark, then saying, "Please, it was only a few inches!"

"Are you kidding?! You grew half a foot over the damn summer, how did you not notice this?!" Wait, I did?

I mean, I knew I was taller than before but half a foot taller seems extreme. Although the fact I now have to look down almost 90 degrees should've been a given..

I smile in embarrassment. "I guess I haven't noticed! Gosh, this feels so weird." I must be atleast 5'10 now, maybe even 5'11.

We laugh and talk for a bit, eating the chocolate frogs and acid pops we bought from the trolley. Gosh, the little old lady who carts it around is so nice!

"Hey, Logan?" Jalissa asks hesitantly. My mouth is full of cauldron cakes, my absolute favorite wizarding food, so I motion her to go on with my hand.

"Is it cool if I invited someone to hang with us?" My eyes widen as I swallow down my cake(and accidentally choking, oops).

"O'course! Who are they?"

Jalissa blushes slightly, looking down, which is strange because she's usually super composed, unless-

"HOLY CRAB CAKES IT'S THAT GUY FROM YOUR QUIDDITCH CAMP RIGHT!? WHAT WAS HIS NAME UHHH OWEN RIGHT?!"

Jalissa shoves my shoulder and laughs. "His name is Oliver, and yes, he is the guy from quidditch camp. I hope that you won't make too big of a deal when he arrives."

I raise my right hand. "I swear to Merlin that I won't blow this out of proportion."

Oliver was a guy she met at quidditch camp. She found him adorable at first, but really more in the way you see a puppy dog, you know? But after a lil bit, it became puppy love.

You see what I did there?

Suddenly there's a knock on the door and I turn my head to Jalissa with a smug smile as she goes up to the compartment door. "Hey, Oliver!"

Oliver walks in. He has light brown hair and a straight nose. He's about the same height as Jalissa, so about 5"5-ish. He stood up straight and had a small smile when he looked at Jalissa, which I thought was freaking adorable. We locked eyes. His eyes were hard and grey, kind of uncomfortable to look at if I'm honest. But it still had that glint of intelligence as most Ravenclaws have.

He looked away to smile at Jalissa. She introduced me and I stuck my hand out. "Gosh it's so nice to finally meet you. Jalissa talked about you almost all summer-ow!"

Jalissa elbowed me, preventing me from saying anything else. "Logan's been my best friend since we both arrived on the train."

I laugh. "Yeah, we're basically siblings." We bump fists.

Oliver stares at me a bit before blurting out. "You're very tall." Oh?

I chuckle nervously. "Yeah, crazy right? I used to be about as tall as Jalissa here and then over the summer, I got this crazy growth spurt!"

Oliver waves his hands. "Ah! I didn't mean to offend, I just tend to think aloud."

"Oh yeah, Jalissa's told me about that-Hey! Double ow!" She once again punched me in the arm.

"Anyways, why don't you sit down? Let's all talk!"

Oliver and Jalissa sit next to each other. (Like the adorable beans they are) I learn that Oliver is also in Ravenclaw with Jalissa, although I already had a hunch. He's also in 4'th year with us! I wonder why we never had any classes together?

He's actually pretty funny, and he connects great with Jalissa. Soon enough it becomes evening and we arrive at Hogwarts.

I shiver runs up my spine. I still can't help but be excited everytime I see the literal castle of the school.

I've got uhm, what's the word for non magical people, oh muggles! My parents are muggles, I'm the only wizard in our family, from what I know anyways. Before that, I was a pretty boring person. I was an advanced student, and quiet. Everybody thought I was this geek, and so nobody really talked to me. Hogwarts, i think it kind of saved me from living like that for life. Gosh, I wonder what would've happened if I never got that letter..

Well, no need to ponder on the hypothetical! I'm here for my fourth year, and nothing's going to stop me from enjoying this.

"OI, OLIVER! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HANGING WITH THOSE MUDBLOODS?!"
