Peter walked ahead of the group, hand-in-hand with Lucy. Hamish was struggling the most, as it was difficult to walk on the snow but he was holding Anna's hand. Anna and Susan seemed to be engaged in an interesting conversation about her new book. Edmund was trailing behind all of them.Lucy was the most excited as she said, "Oh! You all will love Mr. Tumnus! There's lots and lots of tea and biscuits and-"
Her eyes widened as she trailed off, seeing the door to Mr. Tumnus' house broken open. She left them behind, running towards the house.
"Lu!" Peter shouted as Hamish grabbing Anna's hand even more tightly, ran behind Lucy. The rest followed them, into the house.
"Who would do something like this?" Lucy said in disbelief, looking at the things in the house destroyed- plates and glasses smashed, curtains torn and frames out of place.
Edmund accidentally stepped on the broken frame of Mr. Tumnus' dad and winced.
"Peter, what is that on the wall?" Hamish asked looking at the piece of paper stuck to the wooden wall of the house.
Peter read out, "The former occupant of these premises, the faun Tumnus, is under arrest and awaiting his trial on a charge of high treason against her imperial majesty Jadis, Queen Of Narnia, Chatelaine of Cair Paravel, Empress of the Lone Islands, also too comforting Her Majesty's enemies, harbouring spies and fraternising with Humans, signed Maugrim, captain of the Secret Police. Long live the Queen."
An awkward silence hung in the air, only to be broken by Susan who while trembling, said, "Now.. we should really go.."
"But we have to help him!" Lucy cried as Hamish continued, "She's right. He saved our lives and sacrificed himself."
"It's out of our hands.." Peter sighed.
"You don't get it, do you?" Hamish said. "We are the humans! He helped us!"
Lucy looked guilty as she realised that.
"Maybe we should call the police?" Peter suggested.
"These are the police!" Susan said, looking at him.
"Besides, he's a criminal!" Edmund said, causing all heads to towards him.
"Is not!" Hamish retorted, narrowing his eyes.
"Maybe- Maybe we should think about this.." replied Anna, "Don't worry you two.." she looked at the two kids, smiling.
"Psst!!"
They all whipped their heads towards the source of the sound, outside the house.
"Did that bird just 'psst' us?" Susan asked in disbelief as they walked outside the house, looking around.
Something in the bushes rustled. They all held their breath, just as a beaver stepped out standing on two limbs, causing them to sigh in relief.
Peter approached the beaver cautiously, clicking his tongue.
"Here boy" he clicked, "Come here.." he clicked again as the beaver stared at him with its beady eyes.
"Well, I ain't gonna smell it if that's what you want!" The beaver replied.
They all gasped in unison, their eyes widening.
"It talks?!" Anna exclaimed.
"It's a talking beaver!" Edmund said in disbelief.
"Lucy Pevensie? Hamish Williams?" The beaver inquired.
"Yes?" They both said, although it sounded more like a question.
