He kissed my lips and took off some of the sprinkles in the process. He pulled back and his lips were stained with a variety of different colours, making it look like he made out with a rainbow. I laughed.

"Those are some good colours on you, Dustin," I said. He crossed his eyes to see if he could look and I laughed again.

"You're probably the only guy who can pull off lipstick," I said.

"And you're problaby the only girl who can pull off icing on her nose," he said. Before I could react, he put a huge glob of chocolate icing on my nose.

"Dustin!" I yelled. He sat there, laughing like an idiot. I wiped it off and tried to shove it in his face. While doing so, he shoved a piece of brownie and icing into my face. Oh, he was so done.

"What the hell, man!" I screamed.

"Oh, I'm sorry Hun," he said, apologetically. "Do you need a bath to get all that off?" He picked me up off the chair and began carrying me out of the kitchen. At first, I thought he was just going to bring me to a bathroom to get it off. But no. Instead, he took me outside and brought me to his pool. He wouldn't....

"Dustin, I swear," I said. "I'll kill you if you drop me in!"

"Okay," he said with a big smile on his face. Before I knew it, we were both in the pool. Instead of dropping me in, he jumped in with me. He's dead. He's so dead. I am going to kill him.

I struggled to swim to the surface to take a breath. I looked around to see him, but he wasn't there. Where had he gone?

"Dustin?" I said, starting to panic. He was a great swimmer, I've swam with him at both of our houses before, but he could have hit his head or something. Where was he? Was he okay? What if he's hurt? What if-

Splash.

I turned around to see his adorable face come up for air. I started yelling at him and punching him and trying to drown him. It didn't work so well, considering he's like twice my size and he's all muscle. But still, I tried.

"Dustin, I'm so going to kill you!" I said. By this time, I couldn't help but laugh. I mean, I was already in the pool, soaking wet. What more could he do? I started splashing him and he splashed me back. I knew my makeup must have looked fantastic, considering it wasn't waterproof. Same with my hair, but I knew he wouldn't really care. He’s' seen me look worse, considering we have had plenty of sleepovers in the past.

"You look like a raccoon, babe," he said. I punched him in the stomach, which didn't have much effect, especially because it was under water. He smiled.

"But I never said you didn't look beautiful," he said. I could feel my cheeks turn red as he said that, and I hugged him. His body was warm against mine and his hands were comforting around my waste.

"Can I ask you a question?" he said, whispering in my ear. I nodded. He looked deeply into my eyes, like he was staring into my soul. He looked at me for a while. It seemed as though he was thinking about something... what though?

"Um," he said. "Will... will you be my girlfriend?"

I'm pretty sure my heart stopped for a bit right then and there. Did he just... ask me to be his...... girlfriend? I stood there for a while, baffled. Confused. Shocked. Excited. Happy. Asdfghjkl;

"Avery?" he asked. I must have zoned out for a second. Way to be, Avery, way to be.

"Sorry," I said, blushing again. I tried to think of something cute to say. He waited patiently, his eyes never leaving my face. He knows that I'm not too good with this kind of stuff. I've never had a boyfriend; I've never really even had a best friend. I'm so new at all of this. But with him, it feels like everything just makes sense, that this isn't all new.

"I kind of thought that I was already your girlfriend," I finally said.

"So is that a yes?" he asked, laughing.

"Hell yes," I said. I've never had so many different emotions going through my head at one time. It used to be just fear, sadness, worry... Now it’s confused, shocked, excited, happy, and so many more I can't even name them all.

I never thought this would happen to me. I never thought I'd get a boyfriend. I never ever thought I'd have someone to call "mine". And I never, ever, in a million years, thought I'd actually be... happy. Sure, I'd act happy, I'd paste a smile on my face so I wouldn't have to explain why I was upset, but right now, it's not a fake smile. It's 100% real.

"I was so afraid you'd say no," he said.

"Why would I say no?" I said. "After all, it'd be wrong to keep kissing you if I wasn't your girlfriend."

"I guess so," he said. Then he kissed me again. My boyfriend. He's mine. I love saying that. Don't you? It's just great to finally have someone to call your own. I knew he wouldn't leave me before because of how great our friendship was, but now I was sure. He isn't going to leave me.

Just then, out of nowhere, we heard a huge boom and down came the rain. It came down really fast and really hard. I looked up at the cloud filled sky. When did the clouds get there? Neither of us really noticed them. We were already drenched, so neither of us cared too much.

You know those perfect moments in the movies where the guy and the girl kiss in the pouring rain? Well, this was one of those. I used to watch movies with my aunt and uncle and always think "that never happens in real life. Nothing works out that well, nothing's that perfect," but I just proved myself wrong. It was perfect. Me in his arms, kissing him, with the warm rain falling all around us.

"Dustin!" I heard his Mom yell. He pulled away from me to look at her. I was quite embarrassed. I didn't know if Dustin had told his Mom if he liked me or not. He looked a little embarrassed, too, but she smiled at us.

"You guys want to come in?" she asked. "Me and Anne made smoothies if you want some." He looked at me and I nodded. He let go of my waste and held my hand, guiding me up the porch and under the gazebo.

"You guys have to dry off first," his Mom said. "There are two towels on the chairs there." I took one and dried myself off, as did he. Once we got inside, his Mom poured us both a glass.

"Do you want to go back outside and sit under the gazebo?" he asked.

"Sure," I said. I followed him outside to the gazebo, where we sat and drank our smoothies. Their family sure knows how to make good food. Well, and drinks I guess. It was really peaceful outside. We sat down, and all I could really hear was the sound of the rain pouring down on the fabric of the roof.
