Harley's POV:

I woke up to the sound of birds outside my window. Stupid creatures. Why the hell are they awake this early. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they are beautiful and their songs are amazing but if they could fly to someone else's window and sing there, that would be much appreciated. My feet touched the cold floor as I looked towards my door. Not long now till I'm free. Don't get me wrong. I am really appreciative of Marge for helping me and my brother. She found us, named us, kept us safe all these years. But there has to be more to this world that these same four walls. I love Madge. She has been a mother to be and Phoenix and we literally owe her our lives. But every kid is supposed to fly the nest one day. And the idea of spending the rest of my life in this house brings on a wave of anxiety that I cannot deal with right now.

I walked to the bathroom and took a glance at myself in the mirror. Tired eyes looked back at me. Same old I guess. I turned on the shower and looked around the bathroom, picking up the clothes that Phoenix had left lying around and put them in the hamper, followed by organising all of Madge's medications in the cupboard above the sink. Stepping into the warm shower relaxed the permanently stressed muscles in my shoulders. It's moments like this when my mind wonders. I wonder who I would have been if Madge hadn't found me. And who I was running from. Being so young, I don't have memories from that time. In fact, the earliest I remember is my first day in the house. Childhood was not something I had. I thought to my birth mother, whoever she was, and wondered if she missed us. If she even wanted us. They are all questions I will never know the answer to but still ask. The questions that buzz around in my head all day, everyday. I climbed out of the shower and wrapped my poofy towel around myself. Drying myself I dressed for the day.

After tying my hair, I walked across the landing to Phoenix's room and knocked the door. Peering inside I see him drooling on his pillow, completely dead to the world. Me, being bored and easily entertained, ran to the kitchen to get a glass of water, and ran back to my dear loving brother, throwing it all over his face. His eyes shot open and thats the last thing I saw before bolting out of his room and running to the kitchen for breakfast. Madge was there already with pancakes for our breakfast. Phoenix came running in behind me, furious I managed to soak him. What are sisters for if not a little mayhem. "I swear to god squirt. I will kill you" He said approaching me. I smiled and hid behind Madge. "Save me Madge. He's going to kill me!" I screamed dramatically causing Madge to roll her eyes. "Sit down for breakfast both of you. I won't have any silly business at my table." She said. We nodded and took our seats, Phoenix sending death glares across the table at me. "The school bus will collect you from the main road at 7:30 to take you to school. You shall walk there and back everyday. You shall never bring anyone back here. I have managed to keep you safe all these years by hiding you. I don't want to have to try and find somewhere else to hide and lose our home because one of you wanted to spend a bit more time with your friends. However, I encourage you to make friends. Enjoy yourselves. I know keeping you here is not what either of you wanted. I understand there have been days you wanted to go out like all the other kids, but it just wasn't safe and I thank both of you for understanding that and being great children. Sending you to school took a lot for me. I don't want to put you in harms way but I can't keep you here forever. But don't think for a second that this means you can do whatever you want. It doesn't. You will behave and try hard at school. You won't miss behave or break any rules that I set or you will be brought home and your chance of freedom destroyed. Do I make myself clear?" "Yes Madge" We both responded. I looked at the clock that sat above the fire. 7:15. "Phoenix. We need to go. Go get dressed. We can't be late on the first day of school." I watched at my older brother sprinted to his room and appeared not a moment later fully clothed and ready for the day. I smiled at Madge and went to hug her. "I want a text every now and then to let me know you are both ok. Dinner will be on the table by 5. I love you both. I'll see you later ok?" She said, hugging me and Phoenix one more time. We grabbed our bags and began the walk to the main road.
