Ruthie Lockwood
We arrived in Savannah around evening time. I was able to get a cab to my dad's street. The place where he lives before he moved in with my witch of a stepmother. Tia isn't my flesh and blood. She never has been, never will be. She's just a woman my dad married to help us gain financial stability. See, I had a mother who loved me. But she died when I was nine so my dad had to work harder to keep us above water. Three years later he met Tia and decided she was the answer to our problems and married her. But he didn't love her. Not like he loved my mom. My real mom. Tia killed my dad and took possession over me for some reason and she's been trying to sell me since I turned eighteen. I'm twenty two at the moment. This was the ninth family she's tried to sell me to and I'm already here in Georgia. Not so well planned now is it Tia? I paid the cab driver with the money I had and got down. He was nice enough to help me take the bags out and into the house. When I opened the house,it felt like I've been connected with my dad again. The key has always been tied around my neck. Literally. It's the necklace he gave me when I was thirteen. He said in case he wasn't at home then I'd have a key to let myself in. The cab driver left and I was left in the small house, alone. It was small but it was home to me. My only home. Not Tia's huge house. It wasn't home,it was a prison. I heard a knock on the door and I froze. Who would it be? Maybe a neighbor? I went to see who it was and it was a boy. He looked to be a bit younger than me. Probably in his late teens.
"Hello, I'm Cairo. I saw you come in here and wanted to ask you if you're the new owner of the house." He said politely. I smiled a bit.
"Um yeah,my dad owned this place but he's not here right now so I came to live here for a while." I said. He nodded.
"Well my mom says that I should tell you to be careful and welcome back to the neighborhood." He said. Does his mother know me?
"Who's your mother?" I asked.
"Mrs Cartwright." He answered and I immediately recognized him. Little Cairo. He was born when I was six years old. We used to play a lot but after my dad married to Tia and we left I hadn't spoken to them. My eyes opened a fraction bigger and I immediately hugged the boy. Someone I know.
"Oh Cai. How are you? Do you remember Ruthie? We used to play a lot when you were younger. You were so cute when you were a baby." I said a bit happily. He hugged me back but he seemed confused.
"Well I don't remember you but you're pretty and my Mom says you're a good person." He says and I melt a little. He thinks I'm pretty.
"Aww,thank you very much. Tell your mom I'll come by for a visit tomorrow."I said and he nodded. I ruffled his hair and he smiled. We exchanged goodbyes and I went back inside. I sighed. Alone again. I went to the kitchen where I left my phone and saw a lot of notifications. From my mother mostly, then from my friends. None from Juan. Not that I was expecting anything from him. I went up to my childhood bedroom and unpacked. After sometime I went to take a shower then changed into something else. I just realized I had the same clothes on as this morning. Who cares? I took my phone and played Candy crush, ignoring all the texts and the missed calls but I did call Willy to tell him I'm okay here. I fell asleep an hour later.
