Ruthie Lockwood.
Morning. I woke up and went for a morning jog. It's not something I do all the time but I needed to take my mind off of things. I jogged around the neighborhood I know so well. I jogged for an hour then returned back home. I took a quick shower and put on a pair of grey sweatpants and an a black crop top. I needed food. There's no food in the house as expected and I didn't have enough money on me. So I grabbed my phone and went on a visit the Cartwright household. I do need to have a chat with Mrs Cartwright. The first thing that greeted me was a mat saying 'Jesus Loves You.'
Yeah,as if. If he really loved me,he would never give me this shitty lifestyle. I knocked on the door of the house, ignoring the mat and stood there, waiting. I heard a shout for someone to go get it then I was greeted by Cairo. I don't know why he was named by a city but she has her reasons. Even though he was just sixteen,he was a bit taller than I am. His blue green eyes shined with happiness and his brown, almost black hair was in curls. His smile pearly whites and he wore a white shirt that clung to his skinny yet muscular body and a pair of black joggers."Miss Ruthie, good morning. Welcome to our humble home." He said politely. Wow,she trained him good.
"Hey Cai and call me just Ruthie or Rue. Your mom. Is she here?" I asked hopefully.
"No. She's gone to the mall for some groceries." He answered. I nodded.
"Okay then. I guess, I'll come back when she's here." I said and turned.
"Wait. You could stay for breakfast. She'll be back any time sooner." He said and I nodded in agreement. My stomach growled, expressing his thoughts too. I went in with him and looked around. It was like a church in itself. There were godly inspirational quotes everywhere. I ignored them and followed Cairo into the kitchen. I put my phone on the kitchen counter and sat on one of the bar stools.
"Mom says that you and your family used to live there. Where are they?" He asked.
"Oh well my died when I was nine and my dad died five years ago." I said.
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry. God is in control. You'll be okay." He assured. It was so cute. I smiled sadly.
"Yeah." I answered nonchalantly.
"Okay, well we've got cereal and pancakes right now." He said.
"I'm gonna go with pancakes. Thanks." I replied happily.
"Okay. With cranberry juice or orange?"
"Cranberry." I replied. He nodded and got five pieces of pancakes and a glass of cranberry juice for me. He set it down in front of me. I started eating when the doorbell rang. I paid no mind to it and continued eating as Cairo went to get it. I heard a male voice and turned to see who it was and my was it a sight for sore eyes. He was quite built and had caramel coloured hair tied up in a bun behind his head. He wore a white shirt that clung to his body and blue jeans with a black leather jacket. He smiled at Cairo and asked where Mrs Cartwright was and Cairo gave him the same answer he gave me then invited him in. Then his eyes finally landed on me. All I could do was stare. He gave me a chaste, friendly smile. Cairo brought him into the kitchen.
" Ruthie, this is Gabriel. He's a next door neighbor to you and my friend too." Cairo said. His friend. Well he looked to be my age or older, I don't know but I know he's hot.
"Hey. Call me Gabe. You're the one who owns the house next to mine?" He asked.
"Um,yes. Well technically it's my dad's but he um, he's dead so I live in it now." I stuttered.
"I'm so sorry about your dad but welcome back to the neighborhood." He said in a really smooth voice. Quite deep but still good to hear.
"Thanks. So how long you lived here for?" I asked as he came further into the kitchen and to the fridge like he owned it.
"My whole life. You seem familiar to me but I can't remember you." He said surprising me. I seem familiar to him? I've never seen him before.
"She used to live here with her dad and mom." Cairo mentioned.
"Oh. Ruthie right?" Shocker!
"Um,yeah. How do you know my name?" I asked suspiciously.
"Well Cai did mention your name and your Mom was my mom's friend back then." He said. That one got me. I stood up.
"You know my Mom?" I asked shocked.
"Yes and I think the first time I saw you was at your mom's funeral. May her soul rest in peace." He said. I sat feeling light. He knows me. I don't know him. Huh.
"Ruthie, are you okay?" Cairo asked concerned.
"Um...uh, yeah. Just feeling a bit under the weather. I gotta go." I got up and rushed out of there. I jogged to my house and closed the door. I sat on the closest couch and started brooding. I sat there for who knows how long. The bell rang. I got up and went to open it and Gabriel was standing there. He smiled at me and stretched out his hand. My phone. I must have left it at Cairo's.
"Thank you. Would you like to come in?" I asked politely. He shook his head.
"Thank you but I gotta get home. It was seeing you again Ruthie." He said.
"Okay. Bye then." I waved.
"Goodbye." He waved back. He turned and left. I closed the door and went to the kitchen counter. I need to find a job here. Or maybe two part time jobs to keep me study here for a while at least until I know if I want to go back to Arizona. But why would I want to go there? I'd stay here. Where I'm accepted and no one hates me. I might even stay here forever.
