The first page of a notebook is

Thin, weightless

Like a dove's feather.

Flexible and foldable.

A smooth surface as simple as

A thought.

Its void is the birthplace

Of ideas, expression,

And possibilities

As numerous as

Brushstrokes upon a canvas.

At its genesis,

Its simple form pleads a pencil or pen

To define and scratch its surface

Because a first page is

As a composer's staff with no notes—

Full of an infinite amount of potential.
