Shankar opened his eyes over the couch. It's been few days like this. And to know the reason let's go back to the flashback. It was on their first night after Shankar agreed to give her a chance. "So, now go to sleep... the couch is over there" Shankar said in a dominating tone.
"I could very well see that English gentlemen manners you acquired from abroad." Said Baishakhi with a smirk.
Shankar got what she meant to say and furiously went over to the couch. After adjusting himself over the couch he mumbled to himself,"Sarcastic woman!"
Baishakhi while rolling her eyes said,"Egoistic man!" with a shrug.
Since then Shankar slept on the couch.
He woke up and after getting fresh sat in the study table with a bengali book. Baishakhi came there with a cup of tea for him and peeked at the book.
"Oh! This book! Isn't it bout a sad couple!!" Baishakhi said with excitement.
Shankar nodded in agreement. Baishakhi continued,"You are always reading English books... wait there are few bengali favourites of mine here... You should try them!"
She piled up 7-8 books infront of him and suggesting him to read them.
"When did you read them?"
"Before marriage... I love reading books!!"
"What?! Ain't you an illiterate with only basic knowledge?!! How could you understand the themes of these books?!"
She sighed and raising an eyebrow looking directly at him said,"Listen, I'm again repeating it... Mind your language! Did I or any of my family member ever told you that I'm not literate enough?!"
After a brief pause Shankar nodded and said,"No,but..."
"What but?! Yea its true I've never been to school but I studied at home! I can do maths, I've knowledge in literature, history and grammar... I also learnt music, dance, art and household works!! Anymore doubt!"
Shankar realised he really was wrong and she not only excels in studies but also knows many co-curricular activities. He lowered his head and continued reading.
She smirked and said,"There's a word called 'sorry' dear husband~"
He glared at her as if disagreeing to say sorry. She rolled her eyes and went to back to the kitchen.
Days were passing like this. They quarreled and Shankar got to know more and more bout her. She did all housework properly and took good care of her father in law.
Those small quarrels between them made Shankar more close to her. She used to teach her many bengali terms and bengali grammar and Shankar taught her english.
Somehow Shankar was getting more and more attracted to her. But this guy had a huge ego which never let him accept the fact.
