Eth sat in Alg II, trying to keep their eyes open. The teacher was droning on in a monotone and almost robotic voice.

"Alright, your homework for tonight is pages 431-433, numbers 30-105. Due Friday. With the rest of the class, you may work in pairs. Dismissed." Eth felt a tap on their shoulder.

"Hey, Ethos? Could you help me out bro?" Ethan turned around with a hard-set glare in place. Roman Rayel was one of the infamous meat-headed jocks. They almost ran the school. Everyone was either the "Cools" or the "Losers."

"It's Eth, you should know that, but as long as it'll keep you from beating the shit outta me, sure." Roman winced at the comment, his face red with embarrassment.

"Y-you know I don't do that, right?"

"A witness that does nothing to stop it is as guilty as the criminal." Roman sighed.

"I know, okay? I'm-" Roman trailed off, spotting the tattoo on Eth's left wrist. "I'm trying to get them to stop, okay? But I can't do it alone."

"Are you asking for help with math homework or with overthrowing the school's largest clique?"

"...Yes?" A soft chuckle escaped Eth's lips. Roman flushed slightly. He didn't know why, but the shorter sarcastic one made his heart skip.

"Alright. You gotta deal, Mr. Rayel." They shook hands, and that was when Eth noticed the matching, now red and gold, marks on the inside of their wrists.

"Looks like you're stuck with me." Now it was Roman's turn to chuckle, and Eth's turn to flush red. Roman's voice was like syrup, sweet yet thick with a slight british accent.

"Evidently. Anyway, meet me in the library at lunch. There's some people you need to meet."
