Everything stopped in his body. That's how it felt, at least.

All the blood in his body rushed to the tips of his fingers, as his grip tightened around the phone against his ear before his senses came flooding back to him.

The phone rung once more before he snatched it from his ear and ended the call quickly, causing her phone to stop ringing.

She let out a loud groan and then looked up at him. A smile found its way onto her lips. "Dr. Brice! I'm so sorry, I didn't even notice you standing there. How's things going?" she asked, stepping in the elevator with him.

He stared at her face incredulously, wondering if she had noticed him calling her just seconds ago. Coming to the conclusion that she had not, his eyes trained on her appearance. Her sandy-brown hair was pulled back tightly in a bun and she had on a crisp, white button-down shirt with a pinstriped pencil skirt. She looked like every guy's fantasy. Every straight guy's fantasy, at least.

"Is this going to be a repeat of last time?" she asked with a hint of amusement in her tone. She pressed the 12th floor and the doors closed, leaving them alone in the elevator together.

"No...I'm good. How's your..." He swallowed nervously and pointed to her leg, wishing he could punch himself in the face for sounding so awkward. "How's your ankle doing?"

"A little better. It still hurts, but it's only been four days so it hasn't really had much time to heal, right?" She looked up at him with a questioning look on her face and his arousal stirred instantly in his scrubs. He mentally groaned, not wanting a repeat of last time.

He shifted his body away from her slightly to hide his...problem after her strawberry scent swooshed in his direction. "R-right. Why are you here if your ankle isn't bothering you, then?"

"Well, I came to see a friend. She just had her baby. By any chance, could you help me find her, please? I know that she's on the 12th floor, but I'm not sure where." She looked at him hopefully.

Say no, damn it!

His heart was racing at an unhealthy pace and he looked around the elevator for any and everything to slow it down. He needed to do something quickly before it exploded out of his chest. He cleared his throat and nodded. "Uh...yeah. Name?"

"Heather, Brown. Do you know her?" she asked, smiling at him.

He looked thoughtful for a moment , recollecting information. "I've heard her name floating around here today. In fact, she's the woman with the twins, if I'm not mistaken. The little rascal was hiding behind his brother the entire time, so the doctors missed him."

She gasped, turning to him with a surprised look on her face. "Are you kidding me?"

He shook his head, smiling at her slightly. "Nope, it's kind of been the talk of the day." He was doing great. He was actually holding a conversation with her without jumping her bones and ripping her clothes off.

"What in the world? Is that even possible? That's amazing! I can only imagine how surprised she was," she said, sounding exciting about the news. She even let out a soft laugh that almost sounded angelic in his ears.

He closed his eyes and looked away from her, silently praying the sound would stop ringing in his ears, even after she had stopped. He inhaled a deep breath before releasing it. "She was a little bit more than surprised. Her husband seemed like he was in more pain than she was, though."

He snorted, thinking back on Lucas, her husband, yelling with her during her birth. She had almost cut the man's circulation off his hand.

"That sounds like her alright," she said, shaking her head with a smile on her face.
