Chapter 6: Four gems and a Baby

You were so excited when you learned that Citrine and Greg will have a 'baby'. You were actually really interested in humans and their style of living, as was Lapis. So much that you two even went to the nearest 'library' and read some books about how to treat a baby. You were surprised when Lapis found out that a human baby doesn't speak or walk until they reach a certain age.

For the others however it was a tough nine months. Mainly for Peridot. She was crying and grieving so often that almost every week she had a different form. Of course you were sad too that Citrine will have to give up her physical form to give birth to the baby. You did cry a lot inside your room. Where thankfully no one could hear you. You may have poofed once but that was it. Jasper was out of it as well. You spend most of the time confronting her I her room. She would cry for hours on your shoulder, and sometimes you cried with her.

Once it was around Christmas and you and the others went to Vidalias place, where Greg and the baby were staying, to give them some gifts. You knocked on the doors. Greg opened the door. "Oh. Hey y'all" He greeted us. "Hello" Jasper said. "Hello Greg" You said. "Hey Greg! We brought gifts for small Citrine!" Lapis said. Peridot just stared into the ground. "Lapis we talked about this" You said. "Yeah, yeah. Steven is a human baby and he's not Citrine" She said. You walked inside.

"Can I get you guys anything? We've got water, old plates uhh.. How about some tea?" Greg asked. You would like some tea but before you could say anything Peridot interrupted you "No. We're just here to drop off these gifts".
" Right. Sure" Greg said. "Here you go" Jasper said and put a big box next to Steven. "You'll probably have to open that for up him" Greg said. "Oh right" Jasper ripped off the paper. It was a dumbbell. "Woah! Thanks Jasper but Steven can't lift that yet" Greg said. "Than We'll have to get him to start training as fast as possible!" Jasper said. "Jasper it's physically impossible for him to lift that at his age" Peridot said. "My gift is much more useful" She praised herself and gave it to Greg. "Is it some kind of kids book?" Greg asked and opened the gift "oh a dictionary" He said. "Obviously it's the best gift for a being that can't yet communicate" She said. "Well maybe you could use it to look up what a baby is" Greg said. "Let's open mine next!" Lapis said. She ripped the paper off from the box. It was a pilow shaped like a Star. "Oh that's really nice. Thank you Lapis" Greg said. "You're welcome" Lapis said and smiled. "Well let's open mine!" You said. You opened the small box the gift was in. "Oh a rattle! That's perfect! Steven likes to play with my keys, so this really helps!" He grabbed the rettle and ratteled it above Steven. Steven started to laugh. "He seems to love it!" Lapis said. Suddenly Stevens Gem started to glow. "Huh?" You said. "What?" Peridot gasped. "What's happening to him?" Greg asked. "Could it be?" Lapis asked "Citrine?" You questioned. "Is that possible?" Peridot asked. "Is it gonna turn I to a laser?!" Greg panicked. "What if she's trying to shape shift into her old self?" Lapis pondered. "She can't shape shift! Because she's trapped in a baby!" You said. Peridot walked towards Steven "Citrine. Citrine? Are you in there? Glow twice for yes". Steven grabbed her by her hair and laughed. " Baby please. I'm trying to contact Citrine" She said. "Citrine hasn't shape shifted ans she isn't trapped. Steven is a fusion. Citrine is trying to unfuse" Jasper said. "Whatever Steven is. Something's happening and i-, what can i do to help?" Greg asked. "Well what do you do with a human baby when It glows? " Peridot asked. "First of. Human babies don't glow, and letter number B. WHAT IF THEY DO!? Okay, Vidalia's got some books I've been reading. They'll help us figure something out" Greg went into the kitchen for the books. Peridot grabbed the keys that Greg had on the table. "Let's go we'll figure this out" She said. Jasper Grabbed Steven and followed Peridot. You and Lapis followed them as well.

While Peridot was driving Gregs van you and Jasper were in the back holding Steven. Lapis was looking out of the window for Greg. "He looks mad" She said. "He'll thank us later" Peridot said. "Greg was doing his best up to this point. But the situation has changed" Jasper said. "Steven is clearly a Gem" You said. "Alright Citrine, We saw that glow. Why are you still a baby? Is it like fun or something?" Lapis said. She shape shifted into a baby. "(G/t) hold me" You grabbed her and held her like a baby. "Alright I get it. This rules. But it's been so long like months! That's longer than I was a Sea shell. Come on Citrine!" She jumped from your arms and stood in front of Jasper. "You have to change back. Baby, normal" Lapis said and shifted into her normal self. "Baby, normal, baby, normal" She said while shifting back and forth. Steven laughed. Lapis stopped. "It's so easy why can't you do it?" She asked. "Because it's not Shape shifting. It's Fusion." Jasper said. "Steven, I understand Greg is a part of you and you don't want to unfuse In front of him. That would be very rude. But he's not here now. You could take a little break right?" Steven just laughed and tried to touch her (nonexistent) nose. "I don't understand what that means". " Give him to me" You said. Peridot stopped the van and went to us. "We all see her. She's right there" You motioned to the gem on his chest. "She just can't reform, because she has this baby around her. Citrine I know you're in there. I could let you out. We'll be together again" You put your hand on his gem. You thought you could remove the gem but Steven started to laugh. "I can't" You said and started to tear up. "I can't do it. Im too afraid of hurting him" You Cried. "She wanted this so much! I just don't understand why?!" Peridot said. "Everything should grow and change and it's do amazing how it comes so naturally to humans. When it's not natural for us!" She yelled. "It will be. It will be for him" You said. "But what about Citrine?" Lapis asked. "This is not about Citrine. From now on It's about Steven" You said. You could hear a dog barking. "Heelp" You heard Greg yell. Jasper opened the door and Greg jumped in. "Thanks" He said. "Hey. Wait a minute. Why did you take Steven on a joy ride in the middle of a blizzard? What's the big idea?" Greg asked and you handed Steven back to him. "It wasn't really a big idea" Lapis said. "Just a bunch of small ideas that never came together" You said. "My apologies Greg. We thought we knew what Steven was, but we didn't" Jasper said. "Honestly I'm not sure that I know either. I never glowed when I was a kid" Greg said. "We never were kids" Peridot said. Steven laughed and pulled on Gregs blanket. "I have no idea how we're gonna figure this out, but I think we'll have a better shot if we do it together" Greg said.
