We pulled up to the beach at dusk, windows down and blaring "Cruise" by Florida Georgia Line. The beautiful rose colored sun was just sinking below the horizon and the air was filled with the noise of hundreds of teens.
"You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruuuuuissee", Chrissy and I harmonized as we got out of the car. Country music was just the perfect summer playlist. Chrissy recently started getting me into it and I am hooked! Now country is the only way to go.
"Whoa..", I heard Brian say softly and we all turned around. There before us was the biggest bonfire I had ever seen in my entire life. Rising taller than my house, the crackling orange flames filled the air with a warm glow which showed the silhouettes of dancing people.
"Dude this is awesome!", Kev exclaimed with an excited grin. Across the beach I could see a dj station with a kid I recognized from school manning it, about 20 multicolored coolers, and speakers set up everywhere.
Scanning the crowd I locked eyes with a tall, dark haired guy and my heart started to beat faster. When he saw me his eyes lit up and a small smile snuck across his face. I knew I must have been grinning like an idiot because Kev followed my gaze, "Oh geez, here comes lover boy." He smirked. "C'mon guys lets go. Wouldn't want to intrude."
He led Chrissy and Brian away looking back at me with an amused look on his face. Brat. I quickly stuck out my tongue at him because I am really mature like that.
I turned and concentrated at the beautiful guy headed towards me. I still couldn't believe he was mine. I had been crushing on him since freshman year. We had classes together but had never really talked that much or anything. so when he asked me to homecoming last year with a big bouquet of roses it almost gave me a heart attack. I literally fainted. Luckily my knight in shining armor was there to catch me and I woke up to his concerned green eyes looking down at me. I just thank god that he didn't back out right then and there because he asked the weird fainting girl to homecoming. Needless to say, I said yes after the shock factor wore off and the rest is history. He's just so perfect and sweet and probably the best looking guy in the school. The fact that he was mine makes me get all tingly inside. I smiled thinking about it.
"Hello there beautiful", Dom said, walking up to the me. Damn, his grey v-neck looked so good on him. "Hey you", I gave him a quick peck on the lips. "Is that really all the greeting I get?" He asked, swooping me into his arms bridal style. "Ahhhh" I squealed with delight. "Now," he said looking into my eyes playfully, "lets try this again. Hello beautiful." I knew exactly what he wanted. "Hello you big handsome man you. Thank you for gracing me with your wonderful presence. Can I be let go now so we can go party?" His eyes twinkled at me as he leaned down for a kiss. "I guess so." He gently set my feet on the ground and I smiled up and him and took his hand and led him towards the party.

I have never seen most of these people in my entire life and my school is pretty big. I don't think I've ever seen so many drunk teenagers stumbling around like they're cool. Someone fell into me. "Oh sorry Steph", Angie from my homeroom slurred, her tight brown curls bouncing everywhere as she tried to stand up straight, "Didn't see ya there. Wanna drink?" She clumsily waved around a Red Solo cup full of god knows what inside. "Uh no thanks Ang. I'm good." I crinkled my nose. "Have you seen my brother anywhere by any chance?" I quickly scanned the crowd. "Um... maybe... I don't really know..." She drifted off staring into her cup. "That's ok Angie, I see him." Dom stepped around Angie and pointed.
Brian was at the edge of the water, surrounded by three blondes. "Such a stud" I muttered. Dom glanced at me and laughed. "Your brother is so freaking awkward. How does that even happen??" He gestured towards my Brian and the flirts. "I have absolutely zero idea." I walked towards the coastline shaking my head. "Hey yo Dom, dude!" Dom looked towards the fire where a big group of his friends were standing there waving him over. "Hey, um, babe do you mind if I..." "Go ahead." I smiled at him, "Go have fun. I'll see you later." "Thanks babe. Love you." He gave me a quick hug before disappearing into the darkness.
I love him to death but his friends...not so much. They're the stereotypical jocks, all soccer players and could be downright jerks. Dom knows how I feel about them too. He tries to defend them but after a while, all their past actions kind of rule against them. I only hang out with them if I absolutely have to. I shivered as the cold breeze from the water swept over me. "STEPHHH!" I heard a shrill cry over the booming of the music. Seconds later I was attacked from behind and almost knocked over. "Christ!" "Ohmygod with all these people here I thought I'd never find you!" Chrissy let me go and brushed her hair off her face. "Geez Chris you could've just texted me instead of attacking me. I thought I was gonna get raped!" "How do you know thats not what I'm gonna do?" She wiggled her eyebrows playfully at me. "Freak get outta here." I laughed and shoved her. Chrissy was one weird chick. I guess that why we get along so well. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a complete insane person sometimes.
"So where's Mr. Dominic? You ditch him already?" she looked around as if he was hiding behind me or something. "He's with the team." I said bitterly. Sometimes I just wish he could be the caring boyfriend all the time and didn't have to be the jock who everyone wants to get a piece of. The number of girls who wanted my boyfriend was probably more than I could count. I haven't missed the looks people give me when I'm out with him. Pure envy. Chrissy gave me a knowing look. "Oh. Well you probably won't be getting him back tonight." "I know," I sighed, "So where's Kev? I know Brian's over there with flirty numbers 1, 2, & 3." "Um, I don't know." She turned and surveyed the crowd, "I haven't seen him.."
"I hear the beautiful ladies calling me so here I am." I turned and saw Kev walking out of the darkness. "Oh shut up Kev, no one likes you," Chrissy told him rolling her eyes. "On the contrary," Kev threw his arms around us both, "I happen to know that good ole Steph is madly in love with me, right Steph?" "Uh huh, sure Kev. I have a burning passion for you that I've been hiding all my life," I said sarcastically and ducked my head from underneath his arm. I looked across the beach at my brother.
"Let's go get the stud and party!"
"Hell yeah!" Chrissy jumped up into the air and sprinted across the beach towards Brian and his harem. I saw her slink up to him and grab his arm and start pulling. He tried to yank himself out of her grasp but it was no use. As she pulled him across the beach, the three blondes looked at Chrissy like she was insane and turned up their noses. Bitches. When she finally reached Kev and I with Brian in tow we were dying of laughter. The look on Brian's face was priceless. He glared at us, "I hate you all." The only response we had to that was more laughter.
