This story takes place in an alternative timeline, 700 years into the future.
The Kingdom of Ulibeth has never really gotten along with any of it's neighboring kingdoms. It has fought many wars for petty reasons with the other kingdoms. Many of the citizens are used to it. Happiness in the kingdom is pretty hard to find. You might say that they can just move, or go somewhere else? That is not possible. The borders of the kingdoms are guarded. You can go into the kingdom...but don't try to find a way out. One of the major wars that really impacted the kingdom was the war against the Kingdom of Acaria. Acaria, being one of the strongest kingdoms really crushed the state of Ulibeth. They are still recovering. After the war, the city was left in ruins and the economy was basically non-existent. They have rebuilt much of the city, and the economy is not as great as it used to be, but it is still strong. The one thing that has not been better is the opinions of the people. People are divided into two, the people who support the Monarchy and people who don't support the Monarchy, at the moment there is basically no middle ground. The royal bloodline has continued for years and years to come. The longest ruler being Queen Ophelia, also the ruler that has been the most tyrannical and merciless. She rules without a king, he disappeared many years ago leaving no trace of where he went. Ophelia is power hungry, she is desperate for power even though she has a lot of it. Citizens are excited nonetheless when they hear that the throne is being passed down to one her children. She has opted for a Selection, a tradition that was lost in the past. The only reason she wants a Selection, is because is she going to be the one choosing who will accompany her children onto the throne. She has demanded for every marriage aged citizen to fill out a form, or they along with their families will face major consequences. 20 of them will be chosen.
