He sat on the edge of the bed gently stroking the hair of an inquisitive child. She stared into the place where his eyes were supposed to be, shadows as far as the eyes could see. His skin matte white, and his fingers were impossibly long. Her head screaming, blaring with fear and danger, her heart crying for the one she calls ‘Mama’.
She couldn’t move, her pink walls morphed into dead trees, the flowers on her covers twisted and curled to form cuffs around her wrists and feet. Her place of comfort no longer, limp ectoplasms of child-like physique danced tirelessly together and alone. Trees were streaked with cops tape ‘do not cross’ they read. A stench rose like smoke from the wet leaves and broken tape patterned across the floor. The lanky figure danced along with the ectoplasm children, his find, and his forever. The little girl struggled making no sound but the creaking of the elderly branches, the man so slender and dark, turned his head so it sat awkwardly on his shoulders. His gaze fixed on hers he took long lanky strides and reached his hands out to touch her, but she screamed. The slender man couldn’t stand it as he shook his head his body became unfocused.
‘I’m here my darling; everything is going to be alright.’ A familiar scent found the little girls nose and she recognised the sunflower perfume, but when she opened her eyes she saw the slender man stroke her hair like her mother always had. The little girl that goes by the name of Summer Winters has never known fear until this night; she dodged the slender man and ran to her mother’s room. There her mother lay undisturbed, Summer started to try and shake her mother awake, but she vanished under Summer’s touch. Sobbing frantically she darted to her big brother’s room, he was smart and strong and went by the name of Jasper. He was a year older than her and never doubted what she said. Summer opened his door to see his dreams dance around his head in gold and silver sparkles, Jasper wore a cape as he ran to save his little sister from the slender man. As she saw in his dream he appeared behind her and took her in his arms just as he had in his dreams. Summer felt her feet rise from the ground and the comfort of her brother’s grip, he had in fact saved her from the slender man. She saw the cape, the big ‘J’ for Jasper and the slender man gain on them. The house was not theirs any more, the further they went the less they knew of where they were headed.
Summer slipped from her brothers arms; a look of anguish flooded his face as fast as the slender man grabbed him. Darkness blurred her vision of what would befall her brother, as she fell, gaining speed with every second until she reached her maximum velocity.
‘I saved you that time, you didn’t get to see me fend off that creature.’
‘But Jasper I escaped from him first, that means I was better that time.’
‘Come on it seems to me that you’ll need a good breakfast after all that in your dreams last night.’ The mother of the two, flipped their pancakes onto their plate and drizzled them with a large amount of syrup.
