Oikawa was rudely awakened by the loud beeping of his alarm clock. He smacked it off and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. No sunlight streamed through his window like usual. Instead, big dark clouds hung in the sky, obscuring the sun. Soft raindrops pattered against the roof.

"Ahh, what a beautiful day," He drawled. Opening his phone, he started to scroll aimlessly through his Instagram feed and reading through his DMs. It wasn't unusual for him to have tons of messages from girls, and as much as he would love to reply to all of them, he just didn't have the time. Suddenly, a notification from his calendar appears My last day with Iwa-Chan :(. His heart fell.

Since their devastating match against Karasuno, Oikawa had tried his best to ignore the sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach and the growing knot over his heart. Suddenly Oikawa was extremely aware of the passage of time. He and Iwazumi were going to attend different universities, far away from each other. Most likely, visits would only be possible over vacations or long-weekends. It was inevitable though. This would be the last time Oikawa would see Iwazumi in person for a while. For the first time in his life, Oikawa and Iwazumi would be separated.

He tried his best not to think about it, but it was always there. Always at the back of his mind. Oikawa could feel the time he had left slipping through his fingers. And he hated it. He didn't want to say goodbye. He didn't want to watch his lifelong friend get on a train. He didn't want to see Hajime turn his back and leave. Despite this, he tried to act normal when Iwazumi messaged him. It was their last day together. Oikawa had to cherish it.

Iwa-Chan

Change of plans. Just meet me at the usual station. The
train got delayed because of maintenance.

OK! See ya, Iwa-Chan!

Trashykawa

MEAN

Oikawa showered and tried not to think about what was coming. He slipped on his knee brace. As much as he hated to admit it, if he wasn't more careful, he would ruin his whole volleyball career. Iwazumi promised that they'd meet again on opposite sides of the court, and Oikawa intended to meet him there.

The bus ride to the train station was incredibly nerve-racking. He didn't know why. It was just Iwa-Chan. His heart was going to pound out of his chest. Oikawa tried to distract himself by listening to music or scrolling through Instagram some more, but nothing seemed to work. The knot that had been tightening around his chest had grown so tight it was hard to breathe. All Oikawa could think about was how little time was left.

I'm acting ridiculous, Oikawa scolded himself. Nothing's happening to him. He's not going to die, he's not going off to war. I can message him anytime I want. What the hell is wrong with me?

"Iwa-Chan!" Oikawa waved. "Sorry to keep you waiting!"

"You're late, Trashykawa," Iwazumi snapped. He glanced down and saw the bump over Oikawa's knee where he was wearing his brace. "What did I tell you about overworking yourself?" Oikawa couldn't help but notice the suitcase Iwazumi was rolling around.

"Sorry. It was recommended by my doctor. I'll be more careful." Oikawa rubbed the back of his neck. For once, he didn't know what to say around Iwa-Chan, and he always had something to say about him. It's just Iwa-Chan. Why is this so awkward then?  He took a deep breath. "So, how much time do you have before your train?"

Iwazumi checked his watch. "Mmm, an hour more or less. Why?"

"Uh, I just thought that uh we could grab food or something before you go," Oikawa stuttered. Why am I so flustered? What's wrong with me?  He shook his head.

"Sure. We can see if there's milk bread too," Iwazumi mumbled. Oikawa just stared. "Hey, Shittykawa, are you just gonna stand there or are we gonna go?"

     "Right, right. Let's go."

The more time Oikawa spent with Iwazumi didn't make any of the tension go away. The ever-present sound of the rolling suitcase didn't help either. Iwazumi bought him some milk bread but his stomach was doing flips. They grabbed food together, but time seemed to fly by and soon enough the hour was up.

"Hey, do you need to sit down or something? You're really pale. Is your knee hurting you? I swear if you-"

"No no, I'm fine. I'm fine." Oikawa shook his head. "Your train is going to leave soon, right? I came to see you off, so I'm going to see you off."

Iwazumi frowned. "Don't lie. You've never been a great liar, Tooru."

Oikawa wanted to scream or cry or do something. He was running out of time. It was selfish of him to try and make Iwazumi stay longer. Yet the idea of Oikawa saying goodbye to this chapter of his life made his insides do flips. Something hot burned behind his eyes. Don't cry. Not here. Not in front of everyone. Don't cry. Don't cry.

"Come on, we're going to find a place to sit down." Iwazumi grabbed Oikawa with his free hand and dragged him around until they found a secluded space to sit down. People hurried around without paying them any attention. Oikawa was thankful that no one seemed to be looking at him. He had already embarrassed himself. Iwazumi had definitely picked up on his strange behavior. "So, let's try this again. What's wrong?"

Tears were dangerously close to falling. Oikawa tried to push them back. "It's nothing. I don't want you to be late." He stood but Iwazumi grabbed his arm and forced him to sit back down.

"No. I can always get another train. Tell me."

"Just I -hic- I'm gonna miss your -hic- stupid -hic- face and I," He sniffled. Dammit. I'm crying. Damn. Oikawa furiously wiped at his tears. God, he was an ugly crier. "I'm sorry... you're gonna miss your train." He felt a pair of strong arms wrap around his shoulders.

"I'm gonna miss seeing your ugly mug too," Iwazumi murmurs. "I promise I'll try and message you whenever I can." Oikawa and Iwazumi stayed sitting together for a long time until Oikawa had stopped crying.

"I must look awful." Oikawa laughed quietly. He stared at the ground. Man, he felt like a real mess. He was sure that his face was a mess. Eyes puffy and red, tears drying on his cheeks. It wasn't a pretty sight. "God, I'm sorry, that was selfish of me. I made you miss your train."

Iwazumi shook his head and smiled. "Here, look at me. As much as it might not seem like it, if it's you, I don't mind you being a little selfish."
