It was all too much. School. Work. Life. Everything. The hallways were too loud, the chatter was so overwhelming. Practice wore on too long and it was so tiring keeping up with everyone else. Go home and do homework and if he's lucky, be done before midnight. Wake up at seven, rinse, and repeat. And there was still another year of advanced classes. Akaashi was only a second year.

     "AGGGHHHAASHEEEEEE!"

"Yes, Bokuto-san?" Akaashi barely looks up from his book. In truth, he had been reading the same sentence for the past three minutes. "Please don't yell next time. You're disrupting others' lunchtime."

Bokuto glanced around sheepishly. "Oh, sorry about that." He gently nudges Akaashi's shoulder. "Come eat lunch with your senpais! You're always studying and that's not good. It's not good to be by yourself all the time either."

"No thank you, Bokuto-san. You see, I want to catch up on my reading for Modern Japanese and-"

It was too late. Bokuto already had Akaashi's bento in one hand. He grabbed Akaashi's wrist and dragged him through the loud hallways. Everyone was too loud. The noise was giving him a headache. He allowed Bokuto to lead him up to the roof, where the third-years were sitting around and having lunch.

"Look what the cat dragged in!" Sarukui exclaimed.

"So you've decided to bring Akaashi today Bokuto?" Konoha smirks.

"Yep!" Bokuto beams. He sits down and offers Akaashi a seat next to him. "You can't study and be by yourself all the time, Akaashi."

"I'm in advanced classes. I have to study," Akaashi snaps. "I can't fall behind on my work or I'll never catch up."

"Well, you have to take a break at some point. It's not good to overwork yourself, OK?" Konoha mutters. "I know I'm not in an advanced class like you, but a couple of my friends are and they both got sent to the hospital because they weren't taking care of themselves. It's easier said than done, but you've gotta find a balance here."

Akaashi nods solemnly. "Thank you Konoha-san. I'll keep that in mind."

"Good. If you don't, we'll have Bokuto continue to drag you along with us," Konoha threatens. Akaashi nods again but doesn't say anything. He didn't want his senpais to worry about him too much. They should be focusing on their own futures. Their second semester was almost halfway through.

Lunch was over too quickly. Akaashi was glad that Bokuto had dragged him away from his work up until he walked into his next period. He realized that he probably would never be free from the endless spiral that was school. Even if there were brief respites, he would always have to return. There was work to do. So much work. Akaashi wondered if his teachers knew that he had to do the work of other classes because they assigned like their class was the only one he was taking all day.

He stared dead-eyed at his worksheet. Kanji always gave him trouble. Akaashi stared at the words in front of him. He didn't understand any of them. They were going to be on the test. He knew they were going to be on the test. Yet the realization didn't make him suddenly understand them any better. Akaashi wanted to slam his head against his desk. Maybe he could transfer the information manually if he hit his head hard enough.

Finally, the day was over and it was time for afterschool practice. Akaashi wondered if he could just skip it. He had so much work to do and so little time. He was totally exhausted on top of that.

"Akaashi, you there?" Konoha asked, tapping Akaashi on his shoulder. 'You've been staring at the wall for the past three minutes."

"Oh, sorry." Akaashi shook his head. "I'm just tired. It's been a long day. A really, really, really, really long day."
