"You're coming in?"
Stevie stood on the front porch of her LA house, looking up at Lindsey. They had spend the last week in Santa Barbara, and as expected nobody had decided to look for her there.
She had called her parents after a couple of days, telling them where she was and asked them to get her stuff out of Kim's house. She couldn't go back there. Not yet. She knew that some day she needed to have some kind of talk with him. And she guessed that with time he would see that she had done the right thing by running away. Maybe she shouldn't have exactly run, but told him personally, and more calmly, but the week she had spent with Lindsey had told her everything she had needed to know. She loved him still, and her marriage to Kim would have been a desaster.
"Earth to Stevie." Lindsey tried to get her attention.
"Sorry, I've been in thoughts." Her arms sneaked around his neck, pulling herself close before she kissed him. "So, you're coming in, or not?"
"You're not having enough of me by now?" He teased.
"Never." Stevie shook her head, smiling up. "And I think I still have to show you how glad I am that you crashed my wedding."
"For very egoistical reasons." He confessed.
"You think I didn't know that?" She raised on eyebrow. "I knew that you hated the thought of me marrying someone who isn't you. I saw the way you looked at me when I told you. But I don't think you forced me to choose you."
"I just didn't want you to make a mistake." Lindsey nodded.
"Let's go inside." She pulled away from him, opening the door. "We can talk in there as well."
They did, for the first time in years they really talked things through. They finally took the time to talk about what had happened to them, their relationship, before everything had gone bad. Lindsey had never known that she had been unhappy for years already before she had broken up with him. That she had been very short from going back to her parents, and back to college when Mick had called. And that his jealously and possessiveness had just been the last straw. While Lindsey had desperately tried to keep her with him. The men trying to hit on her had bothered him, but only because he had felt as Stevie had slipped from him.
"So we really try again?"
He asked when they had fallen into a comfortable silence after some time.
"We do."
She nodded, placing a kiss on his shoulder. They had settle down in her living room, cuddled close on one of the sofas.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Sure."
"Why did you wanted to marry him?" Lindsey heard her sigh, and then felt as she began to sit up. "I know you don't love him. So why?"
"I thought it was the only way I could really take care of Matthew. Robin wanted me as his godmother, and she wanted me to take care of him." She explained. "It was the best thing I could come up with at the time. And honestly... this is not enough anymore."
"What this?"
He had a pretty strong guess what she meant. While he would have already married her ten years ago, Stevie had wanted to wait. But she had told him that one day she wanted to have a family, be a wife and mother. Only back then it had been too early for her.
"Just us." Stevie bit her lip. "I think I begin to see that if I want a family, a baby, then it needs to happen in the next few years. And marrying Kim... I would have had a baby already. Even if I didn't love Kim, I would have had a child."
"We could go upstairs and try..."
He pulled her close, beginning to kiss her neck.
"If you get me pregnant before we are married, my dad will kill you."
She escaped his hold, but the grin on her lips told him she wasn't really serious. About getting away from him.
"Well then it's good that you already have practice planning a weddi..."
Stevie didn't let him finish, throwing a pillow at him.
"I think we have a year or two still." She slowed him down. "Let's just take a while to see where this goes, okay?"
"Okay."
"Good." She nodded. "Now, you're coming with me to bed?"
I just want to take a second and thank you all for reading, commenting and voting for this story. Thank you so much.
