humanity
— theme: reflection; understanding

what exactly is the essence of a person?
is it "them" that we see
or is it the fronts they put up?
the sides to them that
they let us behold
does that trust ever mean anything?
is that deceit ever worth anything?

what exactly is the essence of life
when we know neither each other
nor ourselves?
in this sea of faces we convince
our guiltless minds every time
are enough to make us seem small
insignificant dots in the line
that connects both space and time

is there any sort of realness we can find
from the way we love
to the way we are loved?
but what exactly does it mean to love?
to accept and forgive
or to seek out and understand?
to better and improve
or to hold your ground and stay?

where does our humanity lie
when we drown in a mouthful
of fables and façades
of tales and toxicities?
what are the telltales to our half-truths
on the days when reality is
just too much for us to bear?

do we bound ourselves to the norms
or do we stray from them?
why is there any harm—no,
why SHOULD there be any harm in either
if we're not doing harm to anybody?

are our unseen futures
ever truly set in stone
by unseen deities and gods
or do we make them our own,
ours to mold and come to life
should we choose them to?
