THE STRINGS OF HOLY MATRIMONY

Chapter 5

The morning after, the day they were supposed to start for their honeymoon she couldn't even get the will to wake up. So she stayed in her bed crying .

She expected Adhi to stay with her that day since she was not feeling well. But he woke up as usual and left for office and that made her realise that their relationship has crossed the duet phase. It will be really difficult to get along after this she thought.

So she stayed in her room doing nothing . No one bothered her as Adhi informed them that she is not well and not to be disturbed. She thought of anything and everything and it only worsened her mood.

Seeing her melancholy Adhi thought to leave her alone for a few days and she will recover. On the contrary she felt as if there is no one in the world for her. She tried calling her parents but they also consoled her that these things are common in every family.

This only added to her feelings that there is noone in the world for her. Everyone wanted her best interests but she clearly failed to recognise it.

Their relationship also became strained and she no longer help him get ready for office and he doesn't expect her to do so. She does help in the kitchen , other than that she likes to keep to herself.

Somehow she refused to believe her life is always going to be like this. She wanted to make small efforts and may be they could go to movie or restaurant she thought.Moreover even his aunts will go to their homes oneday even if they are overstaying their welcome she thought. Although it is a bit suspicious that they have separate rooms for themselves and order the servants like owners.

This time she refused to make plans only to get dissappointed so she wanted to leave everything to him. Eventhough she portrayed herself as being angry she knew it was not his mistake and she thought that if she was angry then he would do somethimg to pacify her.

But days flew by their relation was the same getup , go to office and return only to sleep. Their conversations were even more scarce and she is beginning to lose hope . So she thought that there is nothing left except make a move.

She bought two tickets for a movie and approached him about it . She was no longer afraid of rejection and at this point she was ready to do anything to save her relationship. She was absolutely sure that she is going to give her best before making any decision.

Only when she told him about the movie that he chastised himself for he had never thought of that before. He wanted their night to be perfect and hopefully this will mend their fight he thought.

So he returned from office earlier next day and wore matching shirt with her kurti. They only informed the others when they were about to leave so that there wouldn't do anything to sabotage it.

They went to the movie hand in hand and enjoyed the three hours. But they enjoyed each other's company more than they enjoyed the movie. After the movie she reluctantly followed him to the car because she felt sad that their time is over.

  They started going home and she didnot notice the route before they stopped before a restaurant. She was surprised indeed.Atleast now she was sure that he also wants this relationship to work.

  He had arranged a lavious candle light dinner over the roof top ans she was more than happy about it. They made their way over there and gave their orders. They started conversing but were frequently interrupted by calls from office. Eventhough he tried to make it short they were not able to speak that much during the dinner especially when there were calls from home as why they were late.

She could not accept it at all. She was not alone she was with her husband and why they felt the need to check up on them regularly she did not know.

Although she understood their concern getting 4 calls from his aunts was a bit too much she thought. They never seemed to call him when he was late from work so what is the need to call him now.

But she was determined to not let these silly things get to her. She had the best night with him and that is all that matters.They went home thinking that all is not lost and there is a new found hope for their marriage.

  When they reached home she was surprised to see the lights still on. What is happening she thought. It is well past their usual sleeping time and even the maid would have slept by now.

  Adhi went to park the car so she opened the door and entered first. She was even more surprised to see the entire family in the hall waiting for them. She had a bad feeling about this.Soon Adhi also entered and he was also surprised.

  "Why were you this late?" Adhi's father asked.

  "Pa we went to a movie and then dinner.What's wrong?" Adhi asked.

  "What's wrong! You have never been this careless and uncaring. You know we have two unmarried girls in the house. Yet you go and stay this late outside without thinking about the consequences" Gopal (Adhi's father ) said.

   "I have come even later than this but it was not a problem before"Adhi asked.

  "No you did not take your wife at that times. When you take girls you have to be careful".

   Adhi did not understand but nodded his head.

"Don't do this again" Gopal warned.

   Madhu stayed silently and wondered what must have happened. She did not miss the smirks on the faces of Maya and Girija. Even his aunt's daughters were there. All the time Adhi's mother was staying silently without uttering a word.

  She did no wrong she thought. His aunts must have conspired against her . But what hurts the most is that no one supported her. It was like everyone silently agreed about this.

   Her day is spoiled now and her dream is shattered. There is  no going back now.There is nothing she could do to be happy. This is her fate and she now have to live with this.

  Hereafter she is never going to take any step towards repairing her relation not only towards her husband but the entire family as well. She went to her room and started preparing to sleep.

  What could have easily been the most unforgettable day in her life turned out to be the turning point of her life in a negative way. She not once saw the face of her husband.She failed to understand that he would also be hurt.

  Both of them needed each other but she punished him along with herself for someone else's doing. He was too careless about the delicate flower he was holding and made no attempt to console her.

  So they slept near each other but mentally they ran far away from each other.
