It felt like an eternity since Steve had last seen Nat. He'd fallen in love with her and now it was too late to tell her.

Yes, at the time, maybe he did mean he just needed a friend but over time he started to regret that decision. He had fallen in love with her and now it was too late.

He did love Peggy and if you had asked him if he wanted to go back and live a life with her he would have said "yes". But now, now a new man came out of the ice. A different man, with different experiences.

They had finally won. Finally, they had defeated Thanos, but that all came at a cost. They had lost Tony.

But not only Tony. Quill had lost Gamora, Thor had lost his beloved brother, Wanda had lost Vision. Clint had lost Nat, but so had Steve.

"How long will it take?" Sam asked Bruce

"For him? As long as he needs, for us? Five seconds"

"You know what to do Steve?" Bruce asked

"Trim the branches, I know, I know"

Bruce flicked the switch and Steve was sent to each and every moment of the past they had traveled to in the last two days.

His final stop, Vormir.

His feet sank into the sand as he walked closer towards the mountain of death. The higher he got up the mountain, the colder it got.

When he finally got to the top, he looked around to see...no-one, that was until he heard a voice.

"Steven Rogers, son of Sarah"

Steve quickly turned round to see the person none other than Red Skull otherwise known as

"Shmit" He almost growled as he spoke his name.

"Captain America" he replied in almost a joyful tone

"It's good to see you again, but I must say, your a little late, the soul stone is already gone"

"I know" he smirked, "I'm here to return it"

Shmit seemed baffled, what did he mean to return it?

"On one condition though" Steve added, "You get the soul stone back-"

"In trade for what, Captain?" Shmit asked

"Natasha"

Shmit laughed,"Did Barton not tell you? The trade is permanent"

"How can it be permanent when it's not been done?"

The Red Skull was slowly loosing patience. It had never been done before, that was true. But would it work? He had no idea.

"You can try, but I shall warn you Captain. If it does not work, then there is no chance is no chance in getting her back"

Steve nodded a "Thankyou" before placing the case in the floor and opening it up.

He scaled down the steep mountain, a rope tied securely around his waist. Around a quarter of the way down, he found a hole. It seemed to be a stand for the stone itself.

He carefully took the stone out of his pocket before hovering it in its place.

This was it, his only chance to get her back. He looked down below to see a very distant Natasha lay life less on the ground. He took in a breath looking back to the holder, placing the stone firmly in place.

Something happened. A light built above him in the clouds before an all round light struck down.

Steve made his way back up to the top of the mountain.
