michael
I was watching him play. How could one person be so beautiful and perfect in every way? Deep inside I knew Luke Hemmings was just a normal human being like I was, but I couldn't but wonder on this sad, rainy, tuesday morning. I knew I was supposed to play basketball with the other boys today in PE, but a) I'd rather sit on the bleachers and watch the Lacrosse team practise for the big game in two months and b) the longest physical activity I had done was run downstairs to pee.
I watched Luke as he ran across the fields with his blue Lacrosse attire, sweaty and smiling and I swear I could stare at him forever. The way he ran and the way tossed the ball, he was one of the best if not the best player in the team. He could easily gain a schrolarship. He basically had everything he needed and wanted. And I wasn't one of those things.
'OH SHIT.' I yelled as the ball the team was practising with almost hit me in the stomach. 'Hey, Clifford, you okay?' the coach said as he quickly ran to me. Almost all of the players gave me a death glare and yelled things such as 'How about you watch what's happening ha?'
Suddenly I saw a particular blonde death glaring me. 'Will you give us the ball back already or will you just stare at it like you've never seen one before?' Luke said, oh so sweetly.
My breath got caught in my throat. How could one person do this to me? My eyes started getting wattery as more and more Lacrosse players yelled at me. It was the first time ever Luke Hemmings had talked to me, and now that I made myself look like a fool infornt of him, probably the last.
Thankfully for me two tan arms grabbed me and dragged me away from the bleachers and into the gym.
'Calum.' I sighed in relief. Calum looked at me worried as he pressed his back against the gym lockers. 'Did Luke Hemmings just..' 'Yup.' 'And how do you feel?' he said again. I rubbed my eyes tiredly, mostly to stop them from watering but only making it worse.
'I just want to go home at this point and play video games. I don't wanna think about it. First time in 3 years he talked to me and he said this. He probably thinks I'm an idiot.' I said as the bell rang; finally I was able to go home.
'You're not an idiot, Mike.Quite the opposite.' Calum said and patted my back. I gave him a tired smile. At least I had Calum.
..
'Hello there, Zubat.' I said in a sarcastic tone as Luke joined game in the infamous lane of Eyeora. For some reason I always felt at ease and myself with Zubat.
'Not wasting a second are you.' Luke groaned. I smiled as the lane loaded and we started defeating trolls, but I noticed Luke wasn't putting as much effort as usual.
'So how was your day, Zubat, you're being a little quiet.' I asked Luke as I used some of my not so special attacks. 'Not so great honestly. Kids in my school are assholes.' he said in a deafeted tone.
'Same here. Hey, at least we have something in common.' I said, trying to lighten up the mood. Suddenly the rain outside started getting heavier, and I could swear I heard rain coming from Luke's mic aswell. 'Hey are you hearing this?' he asked. I guess I didn't imagine it.
'Yeah, the rain just got super loud all of sudden.. I mean, we both live in Florida so its normal.' I said as I started thinking. Florida was big and it probably wasn't even raining in most parts right now, especially this hard. So just how far did Zubat live from me? There was no way in hell we lived in the same town, since the only 2 Luke's in my school were a Freshman who sounded nothing like Luke, and Luke Hemmings himself. But that was impossible since they were literally the exact opposite.
'OH MY GOD MICHAEL WILL YOU PAY ATTENTION WE'RE LOSING SO HARD.' Luke yelled, more hyper than annoyed. I laughed, as I woke up from my daydreams and got back into spirit. 'WHY ARE YOU LAUGHING STOP IT'S NOT FUNNY.' He yelled again as he turned and started attacking my champion.
'Luke we're a team you're not supposed to hit me you know.' I said inbetween laughing as Luke killed my character. 'Oh I'm going to get you for that.' I said as I used the best attack I had on luke, killing him instantly.
'What- did you just- oh' Luke said.
We just continued killing each other's champion, wasting our best attacks not on the trolls but our teammate, annoying the living shit out of each other.
'Someone's not on a good mood today.' I told Luke as he furriosuly attacked me again and again. 'Just taking it out on you. Taking revenge for calling me Zubat and all.' he replied as I restarted Eyeora.
'Hey! I wasn't done!' he exclaimed as the game started loading. 'Don't care Zubat I got bored.' I said, still smiling sarcastically as I could basically hear his dissapointment.
'I'm honestly feeling so attacked right now.' Luke said. I scoffed. 'Really? You're the one feeling attacked? You killed me like 15 times.'
'Yeah but that's just because you suck and didn't fight me back!' he said as I gasped. 'How dare you say I suck!'. The moment the lane loaded, I immidiately attacked Luke sending him to his grave.
'Oh no you didn't. But you said we were done with this! Michaaael.' he groaned like a little kid dragging out the letters of my name. For some reason I found it cute but I immidiately shrugged it off as the annyonance was winning right now.
'That's for saying I suck, Zubat. I mean, I'm not the one having penguins in my username.'
'Hey! Penguins are really cool okay. They're my favourite animal.' he exclaimed as we finally started fighting the green trolls
'Sure, Luke, sure.' I sighed as suddenly a green notification popped up on my screen, making the game automatically pause.
Diavlosita96 and xXDracoMasterxX want to join your game. Accept;Decline
'Are these your friends from two days ago?' Luke asked as the notification probably popped up in his screen aswell. 'Yup. You don't mind if I accept, right? I mean even if you did I'd accept either way.' I said and immediately
accepted them.
'Asshole.' I heard luke mumble and my smile grew wider. I wasn't a mean person, I swear. I do not know why Luke brought this side of me, but quite frankly I loved it. Probably because I didn't have to try to hide who I am, I was just automatically my sarcastic self.
'Hellooo.' Annie chirped the moment she and Dandy joined our game. 'Hey guys. You all remember Zubat- I mean Luke from two days ago.' I said and tried to hide my laugh.
Luke groaned. 'Hi guys, I am the Zubat he's talking about.' Annie laughed, and Dandy just seemed bored as usual. 'Sorry to interrupt you guys, we can leave if you want, we know you have a bet after all.' she said.
'Wow Luke seems like you've taken my place. You see, Mikey here has a problem with nicknames. My acrual name isn't Dandy.' I sighed. I really hoped they wouldn't team up against me.
I was glad it wasn't awkward between all of us this time, Luke seemed to be able to blend in just fine, with all of our sarcastic and mean comments I guess.
'What? It's not Dandy?? Damn it Michael.' Luke said and he sounded very surprised. 'It's Miles. I know right?'
Annie scoffed. 'Ya'll are weak. So, Michael, tell me, you like my Pandora level 6 sword?' she asked me
'I love it. I killed Zubat many times with it. Really effective.' I said and couldn't help but smile as I heard Luke groan again.
All this was making me happy. I mean, not me being a mean person... Okay maybe and that. But playing video games with my internet friends and well, Zubat, really made my nights. It was slowly becoming something I was looking forward to everyday. Especially Luke. As much as he annoyed me, I couldn't help but like his dorky personality. Finding out who he is seemed pointless to me. Just playing with him in Eyeora was enough and I felt closer to him every day. Without realising, I was slowly becoming attached to the boy behind the screen.
