Song: Butterfly's Response by Zabawa

*

At the age of 81, Mike and El were both happily married for almost 58 years, they had 2 very successful children Allie and Danny, each of them having their own family, giving Mike and El the privilege of 4 total grandchildren.

They were both retired and living their happy and healthy lives. They were both happy with how their lives had turned out, most of their time spent reflecting back on memories, talking about things they did, or said. They lived in a small ranch style house, just big enough for the both of them.

It was all they needed,  just the two of them and the frequent visits from their kids and grandchildren. Even though they were old now, it didn't stop them from spending every fleeting second with each other. They never left each others sides, but that's not new right?

They were still very close friends with the rest of the party, all of them now happily married with kids of their own. They would all meet up, or talk on the phone with each other at least once a week, some talking more than others.

El and Max were still close, as were Lucas, Dustin, and Mike. They remained the close friends they always were.

They all got their happy endings... for the most part.

It was a sunny day in June. The birds were chirping, the warm air was settling upon Hawkins and it was seemingly a wonderful day. Mike and El decided to have breakfast outside in their small garden, a simple breakfast, scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast. Mike had his usual morning coffee, while El drank her very sugary tea.

They talked about whatever came to mind, whatever they wanted to talk about. To them, they didn't age in each others eyes. El was still the beautiful woman Mike saw her as, carefree, kind, and so much more that Mike wouldn't hesitate to tell you about.

Mike was still the handsome man El saw him as, caring, loving, and everything in between. Their love had not faltered at all during their lives, still head over heels with each other.

But it wasn't until midday when their world was turned upside down.

They were sitting in their living room watching TV when Mike's vision began to blur. He couldn't see the TV clearly, maybe it was the TV that was doing something weird? They've had problems with it in the past.

"E-El?" He called out weakly, looking towards his wife who was sitting her chair reading some book, her glasses perched on the bridge of her nose. She looked up to see Mike, even more pale than usual.

"Yes? Is something wrong?" She asked, worry increasing in her veins. "Does the TV look blurry?"

El glanced at the TV to see it perfectly fine. "No.. are you okay?"

"I.. I don't know, everything is really blurry..and my head hurts." He said quietly. El put her book down and shuffled across the room to his chair. She placed her hand gently on his forehead to feel that he seemed perfectly fine.

El frowned, "Did you take your medication this morning?"

Mike nodded slowly, "Yeah.. all the usual stuff.. I think I'm going to go lie down." He mumbled, setting his hands down on the arms of his chair to push himself out of it, only for him to fall right back down in his chair.

El's eyes widened, she didn't know what was going on, but she knew it was bad. "I'll call 911.. just in case something else happens, okay?" She asked gently, Mike nodded and El walked over to the kitchen and picked up the phone, calling the 3 digit number.
