MICAH'S POV
I used the keys that Mr. Cele had to open the store I could smell traces of deer amongst the rush of other animals... it must be that 'Sam' guy from before! I gotta say, I'm glad I'm not the only newbie one here. I looked around and saw Sam here. He was early again and listening to some type of audio from his phone. His earbuds weren't that loud, but he sat down in a rolling chair. His head was against the back rest and he seemed deep in thought. I walked over to him, still deep in thought. I only wanted to say hi or something. Before I could even touch him, he jumped out of his seat and nearly fell. I wanted to rush over to help him, but he put up a quick paw to show me that he had it under control.
"Uff... Don't sneak up on me ever again, Wolf!" Sam glares threateningly. I put my hands up defensively as if I were the bad guy. He then stumbled to his feet.
"How the hell does he expect us to work here when no one even reads books anymore?" Sam groaned. I smiled at him, chuckling at his joke.
"Hehe, yeah. I mean online books are good and all but most of them are yaoi, or some type of abnormal fantasy with abstract species and societal rules." I joked. He glared at me. He had small tan freckles on his muzzle that stood out from the rest of his chocolaty fur on his body. His stern eyes were oddly... captivating. I want to know more about him... I tried to step up to him but he stepped back up.
"What The hell are you planning?!" Sam jumped at me. I was confused, stepping back.
"Oh sorry. Did... did a predator do something to you before?" I asked quietly. He seemed offended that I'd ask.
"What? N-no... why would... I mean... Wouldn't you like to know?" He groaned. He scoffed and looked to the side.
"Oh ok. I just wanna make sure I'm not making you uncomfortable or anything, hehehe...". I chuckled, scratching the back of my head. I looked back at him and his eyes were stuck on my fangs. I quickly looked down, hiding my fangs from him. I then looked at his hand. He was holding some type of electric player.
"What's that?" I asked curiously. He traced my eyes to his paw.
"... I... I listen to podcasts..." Sam sighed. His body was braced as if I'd attack him at any moment. His voice was quiet, as if the smallest sound would set me off. He was scared. I smiled again, this time without my fangs.
"Hehe, yeah me too. What about?" I asked. I took a seat from a nearby desk and sat with him. I made sure to keep the same distance he was comfortable with. He then sat back down in the seat was sitting in.
"It's... It's about writing..." he said quietly. I lowered my head. It was a habit I had whenever I didn't want to be seen. I guess I make myself look less 'predator' like. When he sat down, he kept his legs braced and ready. His eyes traced any movement near my body. I had heard about some prey being really sensitive near predators. It's something primal that triggers them to think their lives are in danger. I don't want to keep this job and have this cute deer guy to be scared of me. Cute? Umm. Ignore that.
"What are you planning to write about?" I asked, still with my head lowered.
"Yeah... um. Ever heard of The Moon's Shadow? It's a Umm... it a good story that I like... um. Yeah...". Sam summarized. I listened attentively. If I want to make friends with this guy, I gotta show my soft dude first. I mean, not that I wanna be rough with him, I mean... Yeah...NO ONE ELSE WENT TO THE STORE THAT DAY, LEAVING MICAH AND SAM TO TALK ALL THEY WANTED. CAUSE YOU KNOW, QUARANTINE.
