I felt the feeling of wind tussle my hair as an over empowering emotion of peace filled the very pit of my stomach. My vision couldn't help but narrow itself at the melancholic scene displaying itself before my eyes. The warming smell of burning wood prompted me to reach my hand out towards the building whom was kicking the bucket. As the fire sizzled and crackled, roaring and eating the house whole, I couldn't help but watch the children pouring out...
and out...
and out...
It was a repetitive cycle, until my eyes finally located a face I've seen a handful of times before. Everyone else in the world seemed to disappear as I saw her puffed orange hair sway in the wind. Her emerald eyes narrowed on the prize in front of her, her fair hand reaching up to hold the side of her bleeding head as she continued to run. And for a millisecond... I thought I could meet her gaze, in acknowledgment. Or was it something else? I couldn't place my finger on the reason why.
My body screamed for me to run, to take the first step towards her. But it seemed I was frozen in time, just like everyone else except her and only her, the sizzling fire being her theme song, but even seemingly wavering before her. I bit my lip nervously as I-
My friend, (F/N), placed their hand on my shoulder, "You okay? Don't tell me you're still upset from being caught by the tagger just now?"
I blinked once, then twice as my gaze slowly moved over, regaining my full consciousness, "why would you say that...?"
(F/N) placed their arm on my shoulder and leaned in closely to me, as if they were telling about to spill a secret in a casual manner, " your stare just clung onto the scenery before you. You seemed, how do I say this, defeated. Plus, you seemed to still be out of breath, but considering your small form, I'm not surprised!"
They grinned playfully as they pulled their weight off of me and put their body into a gesture of 'who knows'. I rolled my eyes playfully as I softly punched their arm, "Alright, get off your high horse (Miss/Mr) Tall."
They snorted, their eyes fluttering closed as they stuck their tongue out at me, "Make me! If you can reach that is."
My eyes formed into a small glare, playfulness dancing around in them, " Oh yeah? Come 'ere you big giant!"
I began to chase them as we ran around the playground, other students dodging us as we zoomed by. (F/N) then decided to go up the stairs, taking them two at a time with easy strides. I followed suite.
As they decided to continue their plan in heading to the slide, I jumped off at an opening along the way, quickly making my way to the very bottom of the equipment. Once they slid down, I was already waiting for them, flicking their forehead as soon as they reached the bottom.
"I win."
They groaned with a small pout as they stood up and brushed themselves off, "you always get me with your nerdy tactics."
I chuckled and plopped down on a nearby bench as they followed, "you're always too focused on one goal and never bother to change it up or have a plan B."
Their eyes seemed to narrow in thought, the pout never seeming to leave their face, muttering a few words my ears couldn't seem to pick up. Before I could ask them to repeat, the school bell rang, signaling the end of recess. I sighed as I waved goodbye to them and stood up, heading inside.

"Class dismissed"I sighed happily in glee as class was finally over. I looked at my notebook that held random information within it lined pages. I closed my eyes before reopening them, proceeding to then put the notebook away and wondering what I had actually learned from class today that I already didn't know.
As the students began to file out of the classroom, I couldn't help but glance at the soft hues the lazy afternoon sun was emitting from the window. The oranges and yellows along with a tinge of red, all felt so deviously right to me. They felt... surreal even.
Some kids waved goodbye to me and I politely returned them with a smile. Once again, I was the last one in the classroom. My body and mind couldn't help but long for change. Everyday was the exact same routine, the same responses, praises, easy work, etc. When will a challenge appear?
"When will things be different?" I muttered out loud to myself.
I gave a couple of pats to myself on the head to get rid of the invasive thoughts. I looked out the window once more before walking back over to the chair where my backpack was conveniently situated.
The world began to blur as my senses some how sharpened themselves. I began to hear the loud thunderous beats of my heart, exactly right by my ears, as if it was on display for all to hear. My lungs desperately began to gasp for air and I became concentrated on the desk before me, my body frozen in place. I was paralyzed in every way, my body aching in pain and lack of oxygen.
My surroundings began to be painted with a growing pattern of black dots. As I gasped for air, I tried blinking away the thing invading my vision, yet to no avail. The bridge of my nose began to burn as the same could be said for my eyes. As I lost all sight to my vision, I came to the conclusion I already had lost the futile battle for air since the beginning.
