I stretched happily, hearing the satisfying crack and pop of my bones readjusting themselves. I grew to be tired after all of the running I did today. I was able to familiarize myself with the woods while also having some fun. For once in my life, I had an opponent, or even opponents, worthy of playing against in tag.
I grinned happily, stomach satisfied, as I made my way over to the trolley with all the dirty plates from dinner. I pushed it with ease from the dining room to the kitchen, ready to begin on the task which was assigned to me.
As I moved my gaze upwards, I was met with eyes that seemed to be colored a soft grey, or was that a misty green I see? Whatever color it was, it came from one single person, the boy named Ray.
"Took you long enough."
I did a double take, stopping in my tracks, "uh, excuse me...?"
Ray sighed grabbing some of the plates and situating himself at the large sink, "forget it. Just get to work so we can finish this quickly."
A look of utter confusion danced onto my features before I snapped back to reality, quickly following suite.
The kitchen was extremely quiet. We just awkwardly stood next to each other, sounds of plates rubbing against each other and running water resounding within its walls.
I thought I was to wash the dishes by myself, but thinking back on it now, that idea is kind of absurd. A small 10 year old washing over 30 plates and utensils by themselves... or was it? I wasn't too sure. Though, I definitely wasn't expecting to be paired up with the infamous one eyed book warm, of all people.
I sighed nervously as the silence began to become suffocating. The awkward atmosphere was so thick I could take Rays spiky head of hair and cut through it.
"So, uh... doyoulikejazz?"
Ray froze in place as his body visibly stiffened. I also felt my body stiffen in fear and embarrassment. I blinked, red invading the (s/c) of my cheeks. I didn't expect the silly question I was thinking of to escape my lips so easily. I wasn't going to ask him it, but I guess it was too late to take that route.
I began to chew on my bottom lip, anxiety filling my mind. I looked straight ahead, but from my peripheral vision, I could see he clearly hadn't moved from his stiffened position.
He slowly began to turn his face in my direction, eyes slightly wide as he clearly portrayed an 'excuse me?' look on his features. I didn't dare face him, focusing on wiping off a small smudge on the plate in my hand. The heat growing on my face becoming clearly more noticeable by the second.
His expression quickly turned into a small teasing smirk. As he was about to open his mouth to speak, I beat him to it, "300, huh? That's a perfect score. That's uh... impressive?"
He faced forward to look at the dish in his hand again as he simply shrugged, "You can call it that, though, I don't see anything impressive about it."
He leaned against the sink as his attention turned directly towards me again, a very small but noticeable grin growing on his face. His eyes narrowed in a teasing manner, " but on the other hand, you accomplished quite an impressive feat. You got a pretty high score, even with your forgetful tendencies. Guess you're not as dumb as you look..."
I gasped, ready to fight someone, the dying glow of reddish pink reigniting on my cheeks and nose area, "H-Hey! Watch yourself, hot topic rip off. It's not like I'm forgetful! It's j..just I don't know some things, okay?"
Ray gave a confused face at the hot topic thing, but rolled his eyes playfully while looking back at the dishes, " Sure, Miss 'I got lost in the woods'."
