"(Your name)!"
You were jolted awake by the sound of a yelling Victor and a screaming child. You quickly threw on your robe and opened the bedroom door, not even bothering to look at the clock. You marched down the dimly lit hallway all the way to the nursery, where you saw your husband holding a distressed newborn in his arms. If the situation wasn't in such chaos, you would have laughed. Such a well-put together CEO of a company with a look of panic on his face! Your newborn son was crying loudly, raising his arms and looking around with a teary face.
"Oh dear," you whispered as you quickly made your way over to your husband. "Victor, what happened?"
"What do you think happened?" Victor said, his usual voice tinged with annoyance. "The baby was crying and I tried to comfort him."
You sighed. You gently took the baby from Victor's strong arms and cradled the baby against your chest. The baby sniffled and then began to settle down. You rocked your body back and forth, patting the baby's rump softly. Victor watched in amazement as the baby soon began to drift off to sleep.
"How?" he said, receiving a harsh "shush" from you. "How?" he whispered, quieter this time as to not wake the baby. "You did that so effortlessly."
"Well, one thing's for certain," you whispered, gently setting the baby back down in the crib. "Your son definitely has your temper."
Victor pouted and walked out of the room. It was just then that you realized he was still in his suit. He must have just gotten home from work. The sound of the door shutting probably woke the baby. Your eyebrows furrowed, and you let out a sigh. It had only been a week since you had given birth, and Victor had already gone back to work, despite being given three months paternity leave. It angered you how he didn't seem as invested in caring for your son.
"Victor, we need to talk," you said confidently, following him to your bedroom.
"What about?" Victor said, exhaustion etched in his tone. He was loosening his tie and walking into the walk-in closet.
    "It's about our son."
"What about him? Get to the point."
You sighed. "It's only been a week since he was born, and you're going back to work so soon. You're not even bothering to help out with him. I feel as though you're treating him as an inconvenience rather than, well, your son."
Victor paused and poked his head out of the closet. "Has it ever occurred to you that I'm a CEO of a major company? My work needs me."
You began to tear up. "But I'm your wife! I need you, too!"
Victor realized he was making you cry. He walked out with his button-up shirt unbuttoned, revealing his chest to you. His tie was slung loosely around his neck. He walked over to you and gently wrapped you in his arms. You buried your face into his chest and started crying.
"Ugh, you're getting snot on me," Victor complained, making you smile and wipe your nose with the sleeve of your robe. He pulled you away from him, and he gently tilted your head to his.     He gave you a deep kiss, parting slightly after a few seconds. "You know that I love you, right? And that I love our son?"
You wiped your eyes. "Yeah, I know."
Victor gave a rare smile that he only revealed with you. "I get that it's been rough on you. That's why I'm trying my hardest to help out when I'm here. I unfortunately can't be here all the time, but when I am here, I'll try to help out the best I can. For you and our son."
His words made you feel slightly better. You embraced him, making him blush. After a few seconds, he patted your head. "That's enough. Go get some rest. I'll join you in a minute."
You smiled and nodded. Before you went back to bed, you finally looked at the clock. It was three in the morning! You shook your head. He was just now getting home and he tried to quiet the baby so you could keep sleeping. Appreciation flooded your chest as he came out of the closet only wearing his boxers and sweatpants. He rubbed the back of his neck and looked at you staring at him in amazement.
"What?" Victor said in annoyance. A smirk was sprawled across his face. "This isn't the first time you've seen me almost naked."
    You blushed. "I-It's not that!"
Victor climbed into bed next to you and wrapped his arms around your waist. "Uh-huh." He covered your eyes and snuggled into the crook of your neck. "Go to sleep."
Within a few minutes, you both were asleep.

Thank you for reading the first one-shot of the book! Victor is actually my least favorite of the four (Gavin and Lucien are tied at first), but I couldn't pass up this wonderful prompt! Victor can be cold, but he does have a soft side. :)
See you all in the next one-shot!
