(Your P.O.V)
I nervously picked at my skin, my anxiety ramped up. I stared at the mirror in front of me. The lights were illuminating my (skin color) skin. I gingerly touched the necklace my father had given me before he passed. I ran a comb through my (hair color) hair and straightened up my (favorite color) dress just as a knock came at the door.
"Come in!" I called.
Kiro stepped into the room. He was wearing a yellow tux that complemented his bright blond hair. A red tie was tucked neatly underneath the suit jacket. He smiled at me. I gingerly touched the hem of the dress, feeling nervous.
"Aw, come on," Kiro said, as if reading my mind. "Don't be nervous. I haven't heard you sing, but you definitely know your parts!"
He was right. I refused to sing in front of anyone, but I had practiced my parts with the recordings of practices and I knew every word, chord, and beat. I was prepared, but my heart was racing. Maybe it was because I didn't know who was going to be here...
"Excuse me," a man said, poking his head in. "You're on in three minutes."
Kiro took my hand and excitedly placed me with the other two men of the a-cappella group. They all nodded at me, and we walked out on stage together to a crowd of people clapping. I wanted to faint; there were so many people! As my eyes adjusted, I noticed not many were there as I originally thought.
To my surprise, I saw Victor sitting in the balcony, Goldman (his assistant) at his side. LFG, Victor's company, was sponsoring the concert tonight. But I didn't expect him to show up! His legs were crossed and his face expressionless. His lips were pressed in a thin line, as if they were saying, "don't mess this up, idiot."
I looked at the ground level and saw a small group of four or five children. Sitting next to them, donning his white lab coat, was Lucien. He usually helped with the kids at the orphanage, so I assumed he brought along the students that excelled at music. He made eye contact with me, and he gave a small wave. His violet eyes seemed to stare right through me. I smiled brightly at him.
Finally, I looked towards the front. There was Gavin, his police uniform and badge glowing. He was the head of security for the evening, so I knew I was in safe hands with him. He glanced up at the stage and saw me wearing the dress he had gotten me. He smiled to himself and returned to his business, our safety his top priority. The show was just icing on the cake.
"And now, I bring you Loveland A-Cappella!" the announcer said. People clapped politely, waiting in anticipation. I grabbed a microphone, and Kiro gave me a wink before grabbing his. He mouthed the words, "you got this!" to me as the men began the beat and bass lines.
Kiro stepped right up and began the song. I felt my nerves hitching at my throat. Months of preparation went into tonight, but I had no clue of how I would sound. I sang my part, basic long notes to harmonize and complete the chord. Once the first note was out, my voice evened out and everything fell into place. I knew my solo would come up, and Kiro stepped back, making way so I could stand in the spotlight. My dress sparkled in the artificial light as I took a deep breath and sang aloud my part.
"Maybe there's a God above; But all I've ever learned from love; Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya..."
Four separate reactions lit up on Victor, Lucien, Kiro, and Gavin's faces. Kiro stared at me in shock, but kept singing to back me up. Victor had unfolded his hands and raised his eyebrows, staring intensely at me. Lucien's eyes were wide, and so were the kids. Gavin had stopped what he was doing and was looking directly at me, surprise filling his face. His ears were red from blushing.
I stepped back when my solo was over. The audience was silent for two seconds once the song was done, then they bursted out cheering. We all took our bows and professionally left the stage. I grabbed a water bottle out of one of the people's hands and took a long chug as Kiro came up and shook me, making me almost spill water everywhere.
"(Your name)!" he cried. "I knew you could sing, but I didn't know you could SING sing! That was incredible!"
I wiped the sweat from my brow. "R-Really? I thought I sounded too nasally..."
Kiro shook his head. "You were perfect!" Kiro saw his agent coming towards him. "Well, I have to go to the next show. So I'll see you around! Great job again!" He got close to me and slipped me a piece of Swiss chocolate into my hand. "As a reward for your hard work," he whispered before taking off and joining his bustling agent.
I sighed and unwrapped the chocolate, letting it melt on my tongue as I went into the lobby. There stood Victor, his hands in his pockets. Goldman was nowhere to be found. When I walked up, Victor turned to me.
"Well, look who it is," he said, giving me a rare smile. "I can see that LFG sponsored a good concert."
Did Victor just compliment me? "I knew your company sponsored us, but I didn't expect you to be here. Thank you for coming out and hearing us tonight." I bowed, and Victor rolled his eyes.
"Well, I have to get back to the office. I'll talk to you later," he said. "Oh, and by the way, you're still a producer. I still expect a full screenplay on my desk in three days. Good luck."
Ah, there was the Victor I knew; right back to business. "Understood. Thank you again!"
Suddenly, I heard the hustle of footsteps. Five little kids came running up to me, all of them asking questions. I heard things like, "where did you learn to sing?" and "how can I sing like you?" I was so shocked that I waved my hands. "One at a time, kids!"
I heard a deep chuckle. I looked up and saw Lucien. "They couldn't resist," he said, smiling calmly. "They had to meet the woman with the mysterious voice."
I tapped my chin. "Really. Well, let me guess, you all are music prodigies?"
All of them nodded.
"Well, how about for each of your birthdays, I sing "Happy Birthday" for all of you? Deal?"
"My birthday is in May!"
"Mine's earlier! Mine is in March!"
I waved my hands. "Whoa, there! I can't remember everyone's birthday. Tell you what, why don't you ask Professor Lucien to text me all in the days of your birthday so I can visit you. How does that sound?"
The kids cheered. I looked to Lucien, and he nodded. I knew he wouldn't let me lie to the kids. He rounded them up expertly and they all said their goodbyes. Lucien gave me a small wink as he walked away, herding the kids towards the exit.
I felt a tap on my shoulder. I jumped, turning around slowly to see Gavin standing there, smiling. His gun was placed in his holster, the safety on. He gave me a warm smile and took off his military gloves, putting them in his pocket.
"Well, I guess now I know you can sing," he said, making me laugh.
"You knew beforehand that I sang. You always say my fingers are pretty on the piano keys!"
"I had never heard you sing before, though. Was tonight the first time you sang for anybody?" Gavin asked.
I nodded sheepishly. "I sounded horrible, I know."
Gavin shook his head. "Are you kidding me? You did fantastic." He rubbed the back of his neck. "To be honest, I felt like you were singing just to me and nobody else..." He saw me blush. "Uh, I mean, not that I was paying close attention. I had a job to do."
I smiled. "Right. I'll pretend that's what was happening in that thick skull of yours."
He opened his mouth to say something else when a man in uniform came up and whispered something in his ear. He frowned and took his gloves out of his pockets, slipping them on again. He shrugged, saying, "duty calls. I'll catch you later." He took off before I could even say anything.
I walked outside and looked up at the summer sky. Constellations were scattered in the black oily sky, flecks of white that glowed eternal. I touched my chest, a tear welling up in my eye.
"Oh gosh, what do I do?" I whispered, wondering where everyone had gone to. "I hope I made you proud, Dad."
The stars twinkled brighter after I said that aloud. I knew that Dad was watching me from the heavens, smiling at me and saying, "well done."

I actually had this idea for a long while. I just didn't know how to write it out. Guess that problem was solved easily!
I know this one was a little different, so bear with me! I hope you enjoyed reading it, nonetheless.
