"Faith!"
I stopped in my tracks hearing someone call my name from behind and turned around to see a guy hastily approaching me.
His blonde hair was flying upwards and somewhat settled down as he stopped before me huffing out deep breaths. When he realized that I was observing him, his lips tugged upward slightly showing kindness in his eyes.
I recognized him from junior year.
"Hey I'm Elijah. So uh-" he cleared his raspy throat that was probably due to running after me, "I heard that you offered tutoring for a month before tests start?" His statement came out as a question.
"Oh yes. Are you interested?" I asked half surprised and half relieved that I won't have to find students nonstop and can finally utilize that time to focus on my own pending tests' preparation.
"Not me actually," he corrected looking around and that's when I noticed a group of girls from my class was standing not so far away, their gazes zeroed in on us. They didn't even bother to look away when I caught them staring,"my friend, Harry, needed tutoring for organic chemistry. "
"Ah I see."
"Well I just heard from someone about you and decided to ask you before letting him know." He clarified almost nervously.
Although I wanted to meet this Harry first before giving my word but then I knew I wouldn't have much luck anyway if I refused to tutor this guy. I needed money for paying tests fee that was due next month and for that purpose I had to start tutoring someone as soon as possible.
After telling Elijah to tell Harry to meet me on Monday, I turned around to head towards my first class when a girl from the group straightened up and stood in front of me blocking my way.
"So do you need money or something?" She blurted out with fake gleam in her eyes.
I looked to my right and saw ears of other girls perked up as usual, regarding our exchange with smirks plastered on their faces.
"What is it to you?" I replied blankly.
"The thing is, you see," she grimaced a little, throwing a glance at her group as if the mere thought of what she was about to tell me, pained her, " I know someone who might need help from a genius student like you." She pouted in fake concern showing her dimples that suited her barbie appearance.
"I already found someone to tutor, thanks by the way." With that I was about to side step her but she extended an arm to halt my step.
"No you don't understand, he doesn't need tutoring," she exclaimed adjusting my scarf, I inched away from her in irritation," he just needs someone to do his assignment of this week because he's got football practice this weekend."
"Football practice?" Words came out before I could stop them.
Only the senior year of our high school participated in football team. So that meant someone from our class needed my help?
"You know our football team's captain, don't you?"
Upon seeing my bewildered face her eyes widened in shock, "Oh honey, how can you not know King? Were you living under the rock this entire time?"
Her sweet voice dripped with sarcasm and pity radiated from her amused expression.
This King must be in our class from the group of guys that sit in the back seats.
To be honest, it wasn't my fault that I didn't recognize majority of this high school population for I was a transfer student in a senior year from Pakistan and it's been only two months since I got enrolled here.
