How long has this been happening? Centuries.
How many times? Too many to count.
Is it obvious that this has been happening? Yes.
Then why does it continue?
Denial, ingrained teachings, heartlessness, indifference. The reasons are many as are the corresponding questions.
How long must I wait before my people can live happily?
How many times must I watch my brothers and sisters suffer undeserved losses?
How many times must I watch mothers and fathers scream and cry? How many more have to die before the world sees, and real changes are made?
Why must this keep happening? Why does it have to be that we must always suffer? Why is the right thing to do something that is so hard to grasp and accomplish?
Is there any way to get out of it?
No. I bear the mark just as they do and it is inevitable that I will suffer for it too. I already have and many more will.
Are you afraid?
We all are.
How long until this costs me my life? How long until this costs my friends and family theirs?
These questions haunt our minds daily and it never goes away.
How long before the god they forced upon us answers our prayers? How long until we stop paying the price for someone else's wrongdoing? How long before we can stop living in fear? How long until our women can stand proud of their natural styles and beauty? How long before we stop being pitted against each other, like puppets on strings? How long until our people can finally find peace?
We fear we may not live to see the day.
We fear the answer is never.
We fear no matter what changes are made it'll never be enough.
But hope and will are all we have, so we keep marching forward hoping for that bright day in the future.
But how long until that day comes?
