LUCRECIA

i was now in the room with irina and we were looking out of the window due to hearing cars.

we quickly discovered it to be irina's father.

"holy shit that's my dad." she whispered. "get back."

"he would've killed you.." she whispered to herself, but i heard it.

she then turned to me. "when he saw you, he would've just shot you in the head and... and you'd just be gone." she said as we looked into each other's eyes.

i was laying stiffly on the floor while irina was laying on the bed.

"ugh, these clothes are soaking still. i'm gonna kay them out to dry," she said, sitting up. "oh relax." she sat at the edge of the bed, her back to me.

holy shit. holy shit.

she took her flannel off, revealing a grey tank top underneath. "don't look."

"okay." i lied, but i kept staring as she took her grey tank top off, revealing a white lace bra.

she was putting her hair in a bun.

holy shit.

she took her jeans off to reveal black underwear and i quickly put my head down.

she covered herself with the blanket and laid down.

i kept my head the way it was, straight, but my eyes roamed over to her.

she sighed. "hey," i looked at her. "do you have to eat people?"

"yeah."

"or you'll die?" i quietly nodded. "but you didn't eat me. you rescued me. like, a bunch. it must be hard, being stuck in there. i can see you trying and that's what people do. you know we try to be better. sometimes we kinda suck at it, but i look at you and you try so much harder than.. any human in my city. you're a good person, lu." a tear rolled down her cheek. "anyway."

"i-it was me."

"what was you?" she turned over again to look at me.

i held harvey's watch in my hand as i passed it slowly up to her, feeling like i was going to cry.

i decided to put the watch on the side table and she took it and held it close to her heart.

"i mean, i-i guess i kinda knew that."

"y-you di-d?" i looked at her.

"yeah. i guess i hoped that you didn't. i'm sorry." she turned so her back was facing me.

"i-irin-a. i'm so so-sorry. i-rina.."

i turned and laid flat on my back, still feeling as if i could cry the oceans.

i closed my eyes. the dead do not sleep.

lu's dream:

lu was in a green field when her eyes opened and her face seemed to light up when she saw something ahead of her, making her walk a bit fast towards it.

she heard irina's voice. "if you guys could pick any job in the world and that everything was totally different, what would you wanna do?"

a smile grazed lu's face as she saw irina with her best friend and boyfriend. well, not the harvey part.

"nursing." trina said, smiling.

"yeah?"

"yeah. like, healing people and saving lives and, i don't know, finding.. finding a cure," irina smiled at her best friend's dream job.

"i like that." she smiled at trina. "maybe someday someone's gonna figure out this whole thing. exhume the whole world."

"exhume. and-and what does that mean?" trina asked.

"um, exhume means to like, revive."

"it means to dig up. as in digging up a corpse." harvey jumped in.

"whatever." irina rolled her eyes.

"what the hell are you doing here?" harvey asked when she saw me, making trina and irina look at me.

irina sat up and smiled.

"are you actually dreaming right now?" harvey teased.

"i'm not sure."

"you can't dream, corpse. dreaming's for humans."

"chill out, harv. she can dream if she wants to." irina defended and stood up, walking towards lu.

"what about you, lu? what do you wanna be?" the blonde asked.

"i don't know. i don't even know what i am."

"well, you can be whatever you want. isn't that what they say?"

"we can right? you and me?"

irina nodded.

"it's not gonna happen, lover girl. not after you told her you ate her ex." harvey butted in.

lu looked down.

"sure." irina smiled.

end of lu's dream.
