$ 14. (Love) The way you lie...

Running out of the tent, fresh air, more specifically cold air hit her face and chilled her flame... she halted from the impact and looked back, then turned left towards the trees... She needed to think. And calm down.

Wandering through the trees was not the smartest move in unknown habitat. But she did not care. 'I solemnly swear I am up to no good...' she mumbled to herself smiling faintly and looking around one last time, crossed the line... She was a huge bookworm and even in situations like this, she could not help it...

Walking through the woods was not as calming as it might sound when you are on unknown territory and have no idea when the enemy will strike and from where. But she could not stay and face Thor... Oh, Thor... It felt like she was going crazy. All this time Thor's jealousy had been pointless and unbiased, but not today. It was hard to admit, but she knew to lie to her own self would give her nothing good. Since the moment He asked her to teach him to dance, wrapped his arm around her and pulled her close, she was gone... and she knew it... Loki was not the one she wanted to have a weak spot for. Hell... He was the last person, but even the memory of his strong arm holding her unbelievably gently in an iron grip was making her heart flutter. enraged with herself, she growled and punched one of the trees and the impact broke half of its body through.

"Easy there.... we are not here to destroy trees..." said a very familiar voice, even if his voice was very sweet and still manly, it subconsciously reminded her of the snake from Jungle's book... Kaa... it made her smile and she turned back to face the man, she knew was going to become her doom.

Loki was smiling too, his eyes shining with mischief.

"Why are you here, so alone and defenseless?!" he asked teasing her.

"Alone?! If having the most terrifying God of Vikings a few steps behind me is considered defenseless, I don't even know what is considered safe..." She gave him a smug look.

"Some would say the arms of a Thunder-God, With a ginormous Hammer?!" he suggested, but Mercy shook her head.

Loki took a few steps towards her and tilting his head to the right, he looked her straight in the eyes.

"Are you scared of me?!" he whispered so close to her face that she could feel his cold breath on her warm face.

"No.," she said and looked away. It made Loki smirk, gently touching her chin, he made her look back at him...

"Have some decency darling... I am the god of lies. you don't get to call me terrifying and then claim not to be scared of me... I am the monster after all..." he hissed the last part, freezing Mercy's blood in her veins.

"NO... I did not mean it like that." her first instinct was to defend and it amused Loki, smirking he let her chin go and took a step back.

"Then explain... Go on... humor me!" He sarcastically encouraged. Mercy took a deep breath and looked him straight in the eyes... She knew he was just playing with her and would listen only to tease her more but she had to try...

"Vikings lived on earth a few centuries before my birth... I am sure you know that. And there are lots of legends about Asgard and people of it. The Gods... They found inspiration in most of them, But you... You were the single thing, The most fearless tribes that have ever lived on earth were afraid of... Those people found glory in savage battles and ruthless Fatality... But they fared you because they knew that there is nothing worse than a twisted, screwed up life. That can be terrifying for some people, but not for me... My life is already so twisted that if you tried to make it worse, it would become easier... I have nothing to lose... That's why there is no chance I could fear you... The monster you say, but you have not seen me yet... You might have killed up to a hundred people in New York, but I have killed more than that and without an army too... I have ripped them to shreds with my bare hands... And I was no god to them. And some of them were very nice people, you may even say my kin...  You can call yourself God of lies and I will bow! You can call yourself king of Mischief and I will kneel, but when you call yourself a monster in my presence it  makes me laugh!" She was agitated and Loki was amazed... he wanted to applaud but kept himself from doing so because it would seem like making fun and right now he was no longer on the mood of jokes...

"So You think, you are safe with me?!" he asked squinting his eyes at her... Mercy's laughter rang through the forest like the bells...

"Oh... God forbid No..." she said through laughs.

"NO?!" he raised his eyebrow, now actually confused...

"No one can ever be safe with you and that's what I bet on... If someone let's say hurts me on your 'watch' I am sure your pride will be so bruised that you will destroy the whole realm and that My Dear God... is all I would want for as my last wish..." she said smirking, teasing him.

"Clever..." that was the first word that runs through his mind and his lips... He was impressed beyond words, proud even. Proud of himself for being prised as capable of destroying the whole realm and proud of her for understanding his character even after such a little time spent around him. Even his brother did not know him to be able to do that, and they have spent their whole lives, eternity together...

"And ruthless..." he added smirking darkly... Mercy winked at him...

"So my lying God... What new mischief are you up to right now?!" she asked and Loki lightened up again.

"Oh, I almost forgot..." He mumbled to himself and at that moment Mercy felt a sharp flash of pain on the side of her head, the last thing she saw was Loki's almost innocent, smile that to her shutting dow mind was qualified as a sad one. She forced her face muscles to react to the last time and then her world went dark...

Loki caught her unconscious body in his arms and slowly let her down to the ground... Looking down at her for this time really defenseless body, he shook his head... He knew what he had planned to do was equivalent of treason and it would put her in grave danger, but he had no other choice, otherwise, his Hammerhead of a brother, would never even try to use his brains first, instead of the muscles.  He knew lots of things about life and Knew how it felt to be manipulated or forced to fight the war you had no desire to fight for the start and if this girl was familiar even with half of the darkness she claimed to be, he hoped that she would understand why he did what he did.

Wrapping his arms around her lethargic body and picking it up carefully, he looked around for the last time, checking surroundings, and walked away... Towards the caves, where the 'monsters' lairs were located...

Time to time he would stop and check on her state, but never for too long... As much as he enjoyed holding her close and bathing in the warmth her body radiated, He needed to get her to the caves before The camp even realized she was gone and was not coming back...

And as he had planned, He was at the entrance of the caves before the first rays of the sun touched the tops of the mountains...
