Happy Birthday To Me

Chapter Seven

Nina was shaken awake by three girls who stood over her petit figure "Happy Birthday!" The older girls gave her wide smiles and all she could do was return a small smile. "We made breakfast for all of us," Elena said pulling her sister's blanket off her body.

"So get dressed babe, something cute" Caroline said to her when Bonnie and Elena left the room.

"Why. What's the point. I'm only turning 17" Nina said standing up from her bed and walking over to her bathroom.

"Oh come on babes its your birthday. You love your birthday breakfast" Nina washed her face and brushed her teeth.

"That was before-" She said her voice quiet. She didn't want Caroline to hear but she forgot she had super hearing.

"Before what?" Caroline asked as her best friend walked into the room.

"Before vampires, before my parents dying, before my life went to hell!" Nina yelled throwing her hands up. Caroline looked taken back not thinking Nina could explode like this.

"I- I just can't do this Caroline. I can't act like none of this is happening" Tears fall down her cheeks and Caroline rushed over to Nina. She hugged her from behind and held her tight as she tried to fight her tears.

"I know I know" Nina took a deep breath and turned around holding Caroline's hands in her's.

"I'm sorry I feel like I'm an idiot for crying about something that happened because of me" Nina laughed shaking her head. She felt like she didn't deserve any of the affection that Caroline gave her.

"Stop it Nina. None of this is your fault. We will get through this together but I hate to have you waste your special day" Caroline said wiping Nina's tears.

"Nina, Caroline! Hurry up the foods getting cold!" Elena yelled from down stairs. Nina smiled and so did Caroline.

Caroline walked to Nina's closet and grabbed a pair of sweats and a baggy shirt. "For now I'll allow you to wear this. But, you have to dress up for your party" Nina sighed rubbing her temples. It was bad enough that she had to have anything birthday related. Now she had a party. Nina nodded and they both headed down stairs.

Damon was never called, texted, or showed up at the Gilbert house. That upset Nina cause she thought he would've at least called her. But it was just the girls. Nina texted and called Jeremy but he didn't answer either. It was their birthday. They were suppose to spend it together.

The girls laughed when their favorite part of mean girls played on the tv. Nina couldn't even pay attention. She just stared off into space. She couldn't do this. She couldn't just sit here. The doorbell suddenly rang but the girls were too into the movie. Nina sighed and got off the couch.

She dragged her feet which were covered with pink bunny slippers to the door. She opened it and her eyes met a chest. So tall. She looked up and gulped, "Um Hello?" His eyes met hers and they seemed to brighten at the sight of her. She was so small. So beautiful. But the frown that was placed on her plump lips held a frown that upset him. Her voice so angelic that he almost forgot how to speak.

"Hello there" His accent surprised her. His voice even sent shivers through out her body. "I just moved in next door and I was wondering who my neighbors were. I'm glad I came to your door first" He smiled then looked down to notice her pink bunny slippers which made him laugh.

"Neighbor? Oh I never even noticed that our neighbors moved out" She thought for a second before she looked down at her slippers with him. She laughed with him and their eyes met for a second. "Well I'm Nina its nice to meet you-"
