Chapter Eight

"As a long time member of the historical society. I'm especially proud to be kicking off this day of festivities. Thank you, volunteers" I stood standing next to Ric who seemed to be listening intently to Carol. "Tonight, we turn off our town's lights and flare up our lanterns. In honor of The Night of Illumination started by our founders 150 years ago" Jeremy stood next to me obviously not enjoying himself which only made me giggle beside him. "Here's founding family member Tobias Fell with a history lesson"

Everyone clapped after Carol's introduction to start off the festival but Jeremy just turned to me with an unentertained expression. "What are we doing here?"

"Because Ric works for Tobias Fell and he asked us to come meaning we had to or he will fail you," I said with a smile looking ahead.

"Oh yea thats why, jerk" I laughed hitting Jeremy in the shoulder. Ric was now our gaurdian and I know how much weight that puts on his shoulders. I try and push Jeremy to be a little easy on Ric.

"Hey, sorry I'm late what did I miss?" Elena walks up to us with a small smile as she moved her hair behind her ear. I noticed the bags under her eyes that she didn't cover up with makeup like she always did.

"You didn't miss anything Lena, you're right on time" I said and put a hand on her arm. She smiled back nodding.

"The first illumination was held in celebration with the new found prosperity that Mystic Falls enjoyed after the war-" After my birthday I had left Damon and Elena. I was drunk and Damon had called Caroline to come get me. I wouldn't leave with them. In the morning Elena told me that the plan had gone to shit. Vicky was back Anna was back who else is back from the dead?

All the vampires we wanted to stay dead are back. Bonnie succeded in sending Vicky back to the other side after she tried to kill Elena. All of this is a mess. "Hey-" I looked up when Ric suddenly said my name. "You ok?" He asked while my two siblings listened on to the speech.

"Oh yea I'm fine. I'm gonna go head to the grill and get a table. Maybe we could eat lunch there?" Truthfully I just wanted to be alone. I didn't care about the selfish founding fathers who were made out to be heros.

"Sure we will meet you there" He nodded and looked down at the beautiful bracelet that was around my wrist. "Where did you get that?" Ric asked his eyes wide.

"Damon, It was a birthday present" Ric was surprised for a second but just nodded and didn't say another word.

I ended up picking a seat outside because the weather was beautiful. I had the menue in my hands even though I knew it like the back of my hand. A few minutes past and the grill became busier with people from out of town coming to see the festival. "Hello there" This voice. I looked up and met those dark eyes rimmed with long lashes. He smiled softly down to me and I couldn't help but blush.

"H-hi" I said like a dumb ass. I wanted to slap myself but that would just make me look crazy. "What are you doing here?" God he was beautiful. Unnaturally beautiful. His hand rested on the chair next to me and he leaned over the chair.

"Well I came to have a bite, and maybe a drink" He smiled showing off his teeth "I heard someone at the bar could give me a drink even without an id" He winked making my stomach flutter.

"Oh thats Matt" I laughed shaking my head. "Would you like to join me? My siblings are still checking out the festival" He nodded and gracefully sat next to me. He was dressed in blue jeans and a black shirt that just seemed to fit him too nicely. He was even more built than Tyler but he was definitly younger.

"Joining you would be my pleasure" He said softly meeting my eyes. On his hand was a ring that looked like one that the Salvatore brothers wore.

"Are you going to tell me your name stranger? or should I guess?" I said hugging my sweater closer to my body as it became windier.
