Lupin's POV

I was sitting at my desk, grading some papers, when I heard voices outside my classroom. I exited my office and walked through the empty room, the voices growing louder and louder.

I quietly opened the door into the hallway, and saw two people arguing. One I recognized as Lucius Malfoy, the father of one of my students and one of my classmates when I was a student at Hogwarts. Wow, he still looks as pretentious as ever, I thought to myself.

I couldn't see the second person clearly, only the back of their head. However, I only needed their hair color and voice to distinguish who it was.

Phoenix Malfoy.

-Flashback, 12 years earlier-

"You're breaking up with me?"

She wasn't crying, she wasn't angry, she was just... confused.

"Don't you understand? I'm a danger. I'll hurt you, Scarlet!"

She scoffed. "Moony, I don't care who- or what- you are. Don't you remember who I am? You literally cannot hurt me."

"I'll end up hurting you one way or another. If I don't kill you, I'll end up killing myself. And that's not a suicide threat."

She gaped at me. "You're really doing this. This is not what Lily and James would have wanted, Re!"

"Stop talking about them in the past tense."

"THEY'RE DEAD, REMUS!!!! WHEN WILL YOU ACCEPT THAT!" She gasped, tears beginning to flow down her cheeks. "I already lost two of my best friends in the world, to another who I thought was my friend." She came closer to me and tried to take my hand. "Don't let me lose you too."

I yanked my hand away from her. "You already have." I turned and ran out.

I had always managed to shove that memory, that... pain, deep within me.

But now that I saw her, standing merely a few feet from me, the pain came flooding back.

"Why can't I see him?" She growled at Lucius.

"You're a bad influence!"

"Bad influence?" She scoffed. "Oh, yes, better keep your son away from his crazyyy Gryffindor aunt!" She waves her hands in the air. "He's my nephew, Lucius! I have a right!"

"YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS!" He bellowed, his voice echoing sharply off the stone walls and making me wince. "You, are reckless, arrogant, selfish, just like those boys you hung out around when we were students."

She snarled, yanking her wand out of her pocket. "Those boys are my family. They're more of a family then you'll ever be."

"Ah yes, let's see where they've ended up. One's on the run from the Ministry, one works for the Dark Lord, one's gone and gotten himself killed, along with that Mudblood wife of his, and oh yes, let's not even mention the half-breed. I bet he's killed himself by now-"

"STUPEFY!" She screamed, sending her brother flying through the air and landing flat on his back. She placed her foot on his chest.

"Don't you dare say anything about Remus," she hissed, digging the tip of her heel into his throat. He gasped for breath. "He's more of a man then you'll ever be."
