RECAP: I drop my hand and she looks at me gratefully before rushing out.
NIALL'S POV
I run out into the evening, not bothering to look at the sunset, although it was brilliantly painted with pinks and purples. I'm far away before I slow to a walk, and I glance behind me to see Mary walking briskly out of the restaurant, looking for me. But I keep walking, it was too late to turn back now. I walk and duck into a book store.
Confident that I'd lost Mary for now, I walk around the bookstore, glancing at titles. I see a section marked love life, and, with my cheeks blushing bright red, I enter that section. I pick up a book titled 'Your Trouble Love Life, and How to Fix It'. I flip through the pages, but hastily put it back down when I hear Mary softly whispering, "Niall? Are you in here?"
I duck into an aisle farther away from the door, but bump straight into Mary. Her faces softens from concern to...I wasn't sure. Sadness? Pity? "Niall," She says quietly. "Niall, what's wrong?" I look at her pleading face, and I knew I was no match for her insistence. I sigh and sit down on the floor, my back up against a book stand.
"Harry..." I begin, then stop. I start again, choosing my words more carefully. "You know that I've always loved you, Mary. And you're the mother of our baby, so my love for you is ten times greater knowing that we're going to bring a new life into this world. But then, then you fell for Harry. It hurt, knowing that the love of my life considers someone else her soul mate. It hurts , Mary, because I love you, I love you so much."
Mary's quiet for a moment, then in a small voice, she replies. "Niall..."
I shake my head, "No, I know. You love Harry."
But Mary looks me straight in the eye. "No, Niall. I love you." And with that, she kisses me full on the lips.
"Mary," I say when we part, "but..."
She looks at me with desperate eyes. "Niall," she says, "you cannot tell Harry. It's going to complicate things, please." I nod, and she smiles, relieved. "Good, let's get back."
"What are we going to do about this?" I ask, and Mary turns to face me.
She smiles, a bit nervously now. "About what?"
"Mary! We can't just pretend that didn't happen. We both love each other, don't you think we should do something about it?"
"No," she says with a shrug, then comes up close to my ear, then whispers, "We aren't going to tell anybody . We are going to go back to our normal lives, okay? It's what's best."
I nod, crestfallen. "I-- I guess," and Mary nods, walking out of the store. I stayed behind. I needed to catch my breath. I was in so much pain. I needed Mary, and after all we just went through, she pushes me away. Again. I needed to let go of my pain, but how? I start at the bar.
HARRY'S POV
Mary comes back into McDonald's about fifteen minutes later, and sits back down. I look at her expectantly. "Well?" I ask, "How did it go?"
She shrugs, "Fine. I told him that you and I were a couple, and that was that."
I smile. "Good, but where is he?"
Mary frowns slightly. "I'm not sure..."
I sigh. "Okay well we'll find him."

FanfictionUPDATE: Yikes this is embarrassing. **DISCLAIMER** I wrote this when I was twelve years old. There is a lot of errors, and no, the British do not celebrate our independence. It's overall a book that I'm not proud of. But you guys seem to like it...
