Waldins High

The last bell took forever to ring. The lecture continued as if it was never going to end. My teacher, Mr. McKinley, was teaching, once again, about the theory of blah and more blahs. I decided to draw to pass the time.

I continued to sketch when suddenly Sia, my girl best friend, scooted over to me and saw my drawing. "Bro I still can't draw a stick figure. Teach me your ways or something." She whisper yelled jokingly. "Anyway..."

"Ahem!" Mr. McKinley was looking our way. "Something you want to share with the class, Sia?" He sighed. "I really don't wanna do this today Oscar. Let's make your a job a bit easier." He nodded. "I suppose we should." He then ripped off a pink slip from a notepad. "Enjoy detention while I mildly enjoy my class Ms. Jenkins." The class chuckled a bit at her misfortune.

"Ughhhh." She groaned. "School is a pain."

RINGGGG!!

"Finally!" I got up from my desk and headed towards the door when Mr. McKinley suddenly told everyone to sit back down. Groans of anger could be heard all throughout the class. "I didn't dismiss you. Now go." The class angrily rushed out.

"Old man Oscar really has it out for me eh?" Sia said as she opened her locker. "More or less." I chuckled. "Anyway..what I was gonna ask was if I could swing by after work. My house has no a no fun policy." She said as she packed her bag. "Yeah...no. I have work too and my brother has a no Sia policy." She chuckled. "He still butt hurt that I made fun of his comic collection?" She asked jokingly. "Partially." I answered.

"Well...see ya tomorrow Kaden." She said as she walked away. "See ya." I waved back. And anti-social again.

I was never one to be a good social butterfly. Sia has been one of the only people outside of my family, to actually be able to break me out of my shell for a bit. I don't know if it's her famous dramatically large hoops or the famous black lipstick...or maybe it's the choice of clothing consisting of red, burgundy, black, and grey. Maybe it's the beanie or her snarky attitude. Whatever it is she somehow made it past my barrier and managed to become my friend.

Nevertheless she had a temporary effect. Once I met her I didn't suddenly go around talking to everyone or smiling at everyone. I'm still just as quiet...just not with her.

As I drove home in my black Toyota Camry I imagined what my older brother, Dylan, was doing. Suddenly I got a text.

Big Bro: I'll be staying at Mira's for a while.

I sighed.

Me: Doing what??

Big Bro: Breathing. Now go to work Lil bro.

I chuckled. They are definitely not just breathing.

As our home came into view I sighed in relief knowing that for a few minutes I'd be able to relax before my shift. I walked inside and was greeted by Chico, my cat. "Hey Chico I'm home." I said smiling and petting him. "Well..since I have to go in a bit come on." I walked into the kitchen with Chico close by.

I poured his bag of cat food into his bowl and headed upstairs to shower. I grabbed a white Adidas shirt, some black ripped jeans, and some Adidas shoes. I grabbed the rest of my clothes, set them on my bathroom sink and got into the shower.

I got out of the shower and put on my clothes and grabbed my brush. I brushed my teeth as I looked in the mirror and for the probably 20th something time, really looked at my features.

I had jet black curly hair, warm beige skin, freckles, and deep brown eyes. I put my shoes on, grabbed the keys and gave Chico a bit more food before leaving for work.

Beep. Beep.

I scanned the woman's new clothes as she looked at me happily as if hopeful that I'd ask her something. I finished scanning gave her her clothes and said "Have a nice night. Goodbye." She made a hymph sound and walked off with her clothes. "Rude..." I heard her mutter.

Sigh. I whipped around and saw my manager. "The least you could do is smile kid." He said. His hair was a deep navy blue into a ponytail. He had a mole under his lop with tattoo sleeves. His eyes were pale blue and his eyebrows were jet black.

"Kid..you do your job well and I'd hate to fire ya but please smile or have a little charisma. You look so mad and angry people are never gonna wanna come here!" He fake sobbed.

Despite his rough look my manager, Jason, was a really humorous person. The exact opposite of me. "Fine. I'll smile." I said in a nonchalant tone.

I cracked a smile and apparently it worked well enough for Jason. "That's it! That's the one. Smile like that and our customers will always come back." I instantly stopped smiling. "Yeah no." I said calmy as I went back to my stand. "Alright we'll see if your mind changes..."

I took the boring trip back home and into the house. Chico greeted me with a happy purr. "Hey bud. Cmon." I called to him to follow me to my room. I walked up the stairs and into my room.

I had a double bed with a grey comforter, a flat screen tv, an Xbox, a private bathroom, and a ceiling fan. I also had led lights requested by my brother to 'liven up my room'.

I sat in the bed as Chico jumped into bed. I sighed. "Am I that mean looking Chico?" I asked, as if he could answer me. Sigh.

BOOOMMM!!!!!!

"What the heck was that?!" I shot up from my bed and looked out my window. A glowing green...something.
I hurried downstairs and outside.

A glowing green spaceship in my backyard...totally normal.

"....Is anyone-"

BOOOOOMMM!!

An immense green light glew as a woman burst through the glowing green spaceship. I expected her to fall back down but surprisingly she stayed in the air a bit. One yellow eye opened drowsily and then she fell back down.

Crap! Catch her dumb nut!

I spread my arms out to catch her and when she hit my arms I forgot that the impact would cause a force on my arms, which- due to gravity - would make me fall.

Curse you gravity.

I fell into her open spaceship and inside was some weird words, as if from another language. A picture of Earth sat on a screen.

What the...

I looked at the girl and she had scratches all over her arms, as if someone was trying to claw at her arms. I sighed. Just a totally average day. Sigh.
