This is a SUPER info-heavy chapter! It answers some unanswered questions from RH as well.
Also - I've kept pictures of the characters out because I enjoy the idea of having you guys see the characters as you imagine them, but I do have reference photos. Is there anyone who wants these pictures up, or would you prefer to keep your own image of them? Let me know!
Arabelle Warren
The restaurant we were currently seated at was a gorgeous Mexican place, the walls entirely stone, all of the tablecloths a deep red. The lighting was dim, but it didn't really matter, my eyesight was enhanced enough to make out all the details of the gorgeous little place we were in. Well, little was an understatement. It was a decently sized place for a town as miniscule as Roseburg.
Saoirse sat at the table across from me, her hair the same strawberry colour as always. It seemed darker in contrast to the dim lighting, but it was gorgeous. I'd never had a thing for redheads, but she was obviously the exception. She was the exception for everything.
Spanish music played throughout the restaurant in the backyard, but I wasn't really paying attention to it. I watched the woman in front of me flip through the menu, the cover a faux leather the same colour as the tablecloths. She was looking at it intently, browsing her options.
I already knew what I was getting, of course. I was familiar with Mexican cuisine. It had always been my favourite.
"I will admit," my mate spoke, her eyes flicking upstairs to glance at me, "I'm not too familiar with most of this. I don't really eat human food, you know. Do you want to split a few dishes instead? A little bit of all your favourites?"
That was an offer I simply couldn't refuse. "That sounds like a plan to me," I replied back.
"Perfect, you can order then, is that okay?"
I rubbed my hands together, grinning. "It sounds better than okay!"
A server made his way over, a cute teenage boy, obviously of Spanish heritage. "Hola, ladies," he greeted, "can I start you off with anything to drink?"
"Just water for me, thank you," Saoirse replied. I told him I'd like the same, and I let him know we were actually ready to order. He took our order quickly and then made his way to the back, promising he'd be back with our drinks shortly. I didn't watch him as he left, instead I turned my eyes to the woman in front of me, who was sitting upright in her chair, far too proper for any human.
"So tell me, Belle," she began, parting her lips, "is there a reason you love Mexican food so much?"
I laughed. "Not really. Mom made tacos for dinner once when I was a toddler and that's pretty much it. All my siblings love it too. What's your favourite food?"
Then I grimaced. Nice one, idiot, I thought to myself, ask your vampire mate what her favourite food is!
"Bears," she responded, shocking me with an amused smile, "they'd have to be my favourite. Deers are too... sweet for my taste."
At this, I was intrigued. "Different animals have different tastes?"
She parted her lips to smile at me, her fangs extracted. The sight of it was somewhat... erotic. Her eyes half closed, staring at me hazily, her strawberry hair fanning around her face, which was just as pale as always, almost illuminated by the restaurant's dim lighting. Her lips were full and a plush pink, the tips of her fangs just hovering over her bottom lip.
After a minute of my shameless staring, her fangs retracted as she closed her lips, shooting me a closed-mouth smile instead. "They certainly do," she hummed, "just as every species has a different taste. Every species has a distinct taste, but every person, or animal, within that species has their own unique one."
