"Let's go away for a night."
Arabelle peeked up at me from the top of the novel she was reading. The bags under her eyes were a deepening purple and they were much bigger than they had been the previous week. The deep shade of wine made the blue of her eyes particularly bright as they stared at me in blatant curiosity.
"What about Elden?"
Of course my beloved would first worry about everyone else in the house before thinking of herself. I nearly laughed. "Jamie and Elden can have the house to themselves tonight if they want it. Elden would be fine on his own anyways, love."
Arabelle seemed to ponder the thought for a moment. Closing the book on a finger to keep her page, she let it fall into her lap. "Where would we go?"
"A nice hotel?" I propositioned, leaning back into my chair to sit more comfortably. Arabelle, of course, was in her own chair, the windows in the study allowing sunlight to wash over her. I nearly frowned. My beloved was undeniably beautiful, but she'd grown sickeningly pale the past few weeks.
"A hotel?" Her eyebrows furrowed.
"A nice hotel," I corrected, smiling at her. "One with a hot tub, a deep bathtub, a buffet, a four poster bed..."
Arabelle's eyes narrowed on me suspiciously. "Are you trying to seduce me into going away with you?"
Twisting my smile into a playfully promiscuous smirk, I leaned towards her. "That depends," I purred, "is it working?"
She tilted her head back and let out a laugh. "A little," she admitted, and my chest filled with adoration at her little smile. "When would we leave?"
"Tonight, if you want. I could book a room right now."
Her gaze softened incredibly as she looked at me then, placing her book on our L-shaped desk without breaking eye contact. "I'm going to be okay, you know," she murmured gently. "You don't have to do this."
She was close enough to me that I could touch her if I reached out, so I took the opportunity and scooped her up, maneuvering her legs so she was straddling me. She wasted no time in wrapping her arms over my shoulders. She was looking down at me now, her eyes still undeniably soft.
With my hands gripping her thighs, I met her gaze once more. "I hate seeing you like this," I admitted. "I know you'll be okay, my love, but you're not right now. Let me treat you to a great night. Let's get out of this house for a bit and just enjoy ourselves. Does that sound okay?"
She pecked the tip of my nose. "It sounds more than okay. I love you."
"I love you." And then she leaned forward and captured my lips with hers. I felt her sigh into my mouth as my right hand slid over her thigh, along her waist and up her back to tangle into her hair while my left gripped her thigh tighter.
The kiss was deep and sensual, Arabelle grinding against me while she moaned into the kiss. I was nearly ready to place her on the desk and have my way with her when she pulled away breathlessly.
