Class was a hard thing for Sehun to grasp. One moment, the class was loud and unbearable, the other, the class was so silent you could hear your own heartbeat. How could everyone adjust so easily from one moment to the other?
Not to mention that Sehun had to follow a book he had seen for the first time and then a grown man talking. One moment, they were looking at the book, the other, at the chalkboard, the next, they had to write something down, immediately after, they had to answer questions. And classes were back to back.
Is this normal? This can't be normal.
All the while, between classes, Chen and Kyungsoo, alongside Baekhyun - the kid with the glasses - were all talking to each other.Sehun really didn't like Baekhyun.
Baekhyun was smart. He was calculating. He was observant. He could figure out Sehun in seconds if he really wanted to. And he was certain he'd already done so.
And then he heard a gentle sound over the intercom.
Chen groaned and stretched. "Break timeee" he chimed along with the sound. The three of them got up from their chairs, alongside all the other students. "I gotta go to the bathroom..." Baekhyun said. "Sehun, can you come with me?"
"Why do you need Sehun? Can't you go alone?" Chen teased.
"I just want Sehun to see around the school for a change... He's not gonna learn the school grounds otherwise, right?" Baekhyun looked at Sehun. Sehun took a second but nodded.
"Great! Let's go," Baekhyun said and marched out the door, Sehun following suit.
Sehun quickly came to realize that school was a confusing maze outside of class, too. There were so many different halls, all leading to different parts of the school he didn't know would be there. He lost track of time and for how long he was walking. He basically left all his sense of direction up to Baekhyun. Wherever he went, Sehun followed. The further they walked, the emptier the halls got.
"So," Baekhyun suddenly stopped talking. "Where are you really from?"
What?
"... Seoul..." Sehun replied. "I don't buy it." Baekhyun spat back. "In fact, I don't think you're from here at all. Or is it just shyness?" he asked. Sehun quickly nodded. "That..."
"... So! If you're from Seoul, then who are your parents?" Baekhyun asked. "... My parents... I..." Sehun looked around desperately as if the answer was written on a wall. "... I don't have parents," he answered confidently.
"How far is school from your house?" Baekhyun asked. "... Not too far..." Sehun mumbled. Baekhyun sighed in frustration. Sehun was obviously not giving him the answers he wanted. "... Don't you want to go to the bathroom?" Sehun asked. "... I kinda changed my mind, so you don't have to worry about that..." Baekhyun replied.
"Oh, I know!" he suddenly yelled. "When is your birthday?" he asked.
"... My birthday.... uh..." Sehun began darting his eyes around again. Birthday? Birthday??
Baekhyun was completely onto him now. Sehun was aware of that fact.
"... What do you want." Sehun sternly asked. "Woah, no need to get hostile," Baekhyun urged. "You were just acting suspicious and wanted to know what was up." he put his hands up in a defensive position. "I don't trust you," Sehun said. "Me neither. I think that's fair, right?" Baekhyun asked.
It was sort of fair. That didn't stop Sehun feeling unsafe, though.
"Why do you want to know so badly. Are you looking for something?" Sehun asked. Baekhyun shrugged. "I'm just looking for answers. Nothing dangerous in particular," Baekhyun replied. "... Are you afraid of me?"
Sehun clenched his fists. How does he even reply to that? This is all bullcrap. High school is bullcrap. He wanted to leave.
"... You're not very good at hiding things, are you?" Baekhyun asked with a smile on his face. "Here, listen, I can help you hide whatever you gotta hide, I won't overstep your boundaries. Just give me a few answers and I'll leave you alone. Yes or no?"
"... All my answers are gonna seem absurd to you." Sehun replied. "I don't mind that, an answer is still an answer," Baekhyun explained.
That's what he thought now.
Where would he even start? The rocky landing, his home, the heart, the tree, there were so many things Sehun had to tell Baekhyun for everything to make sense.
"... how long is the break?" Sehun asked. "About an hour or so," Baekhyun replied.
"... You have to promise that everything you learn in this hallway stays in this hallway, okay?" Sehun asked once more. "Is it that serious?" Baekhyun asked in return. Sehun nodded.
"... I promise."
