Sehun took a deep breath. This was going to be complicated, and he had to put it in a way where Baekhyun understood everything.
"... Stop me if you have questions..." Sehun cautioned before even beginning.
"... Far away, somewhere in space, there exists this planet called the Exoplanet. All the beings in the Exoplanet depend on the Tree of Life in order to survive. The Tree of Life gives us energy."
"Do you eat from it, or like, is it an atmospheric thing?" Baekhyun asked.
"Thanks to the Tree of Life, we don't need to eat, drink, or sleep to survive... It exists and we thrive off of it."
"That sounds handy... go on," Baekhyun continued.
"There aren't many beings in the Exoplanet, only a handful, and I used to be one of them... We all lived under the Tree of Life peacefully and went about our lives. One day, the Tree of Life started withering out of nowhere, and we were all panicking... we needed to find a cure for whatever happened."
"Did you notice any symptoms on the people? Like, were you getting tired, or hungry, or sick... Also was it like, a parasitic infection? Why is the tree of life sick?" Baekhyun asked.
"No, just, one of my friends noticed the leaves on a branch were browning and falling... and the old legends said that this was a sign of the annihilation of the Exoplanet."
"Damn, that got really dark real fast... go on," Baekhyun urged.
"So the elders of the planet tried for days to find out what happened to the Tree of Life and why the annihilation was starting so suddenly. I need to explain a bit more though first, the Tree of Life needs 3 crystals in order to survive, I don't know the nitty-gritty of it since I'm not an elder, but it needs crystals... One exists within the Exoplanet, the other is from space itself, and the third is here, on Earth. We already have the other two, but the elders noticed that the one from Earth was missing."
"Was it always missing?" Baekhyun asked.
"... I don't know, the elders didn't say anything about that... Maybe it did but it finally wasn't enough... I really have no idea..."
"Because I assume you have a timer on this, right? If so, for how long can those other two crystals hold the tree of life until you can get the Earth crystal back?"
"I'm not sure... I hope it won't be too late regardless..." Sehun mumbled.
"... So anyway," he continued. "The elders found out what was wrong with the tree and the fact that the red crystal was missing from the Tree. So they said that one of the younger people had to go to Earth and retrieve it before it withered completely. From the 5 capable ones, I was the one that was chosen... They told me I would go to Earth and find the crystal."
"And then?" Baekhyun asked.
"... I... go back and... then the Tree of Life is okay again..." Sehun muttered.
".... Do you even know how to get back?" Sehun stayed silent. "... Do you at least have any form of communication with the Exoplanet? Like, any at all?"
... They hadn't thought of that... Had they? All Sehun knew is that he needed to find the crystal. They hadn't told him of any way that they would communicate.
"... Well... if I start feeling worse, then at least I know I'm running out of time..." Sehun mumbled.
"... Are you serious?" Baekhyun blurted. "... Do you at least know where to find it?"
... Ah.
"... You have to be kidding me. They just throw a kid from another planet into Earth and give him some vague instructions to find a rock in a totally new planet." Baekhyun started rambling. "Do you even know if you're still under the reign of the Tree of Life? Like, will it still help you not need food or sleep or things like that?"
"Probably, since I still rely on it to survive... I think I'll be fine," Sehun replied.
And then Sehun's stomach let out the loudest growl Sehun had ever heard his body make.
"... Uh..." he looked at Baekhyun, extremely confused.
Baekhyun took a deep, exasperated breath. "Alright... I promise this entire conversation is going to stay between us. Alright?" Sehun nodded. "Good. But, I need your help. You need to be discreet about things that you don't know. For example, when we eat, if you don't know how to do that, don't ask how you eat, just, throw a little, tiny, discreet look at me and then copy. Please don't make your situation more obvious than it already is..." he begged.
"... Was it really that bad...?" he asked. Baekhyun smiled sympathetically.
"Everybody guessed you were weird... but I'm pretty sure they just chalked it up to you being shy... you'll be fine," he explained.
"I'll help you learn how to be human, is that okay?" he asked.
It was nice that he had someone helping him through all of this... Baekhyun had just realized how little Sehun knew of their world... He was told, time and time again, that humans aren't trustworthy, and greedy, that they were gonna backstab Sehun the moment he told his reasons for being there. But Baekhyun seemed to be different... He didn't seem backstabbing or greedy at all.
"... It's okay..." Sehun replied.
"Great! I think we should start heading back... You should meet the others, I think you'll like them." he started walking back where they came from. "You don't have to tell them anything, just be discreet, remember?" Sehun nodded.
"Just be discreet."
