One day I went to the beach and asked God to show me a sign that He was there with me. A wave crashed onto my toes and I complained that it was cold.
The next day I went back and again asked God to show me a sign that He was there with me. The wind picked up and I complained that it blew my hat off my head.
The day after I went to the beach again and asked God to show me a sign that He was there. I picked up a beautiful, unbroken shell that was beside me in the sand but complained when I realized there was life inside it and it had startled me.

The next day I went back to the beach one last time and wrote in the sand with a stick, in the biggest letters I could, "GOD, WHERE ARE YOU?"
At that moment the biggest wave crashed on the beach, washing away all the letters, the evidence of my prayers. But later I realized that He had really washed away my question, because no more should I have to question or wonder if he is there or not.
