They say the best type of relationship is the one that starts as a friendship.

Nicolas and I have been best friends for a few years now. While each has a different career path, personality, and preferences, we managed to stay close. Now, not everything was paradise, we fought frequently, disagreed or went for a long period without talking to each other. But no matter what, every time we would quarrel, we would pick it back up as nothing happened. However, we learn from our mistakes. As such, I now know never to pressure him about meeting one of my friends or to set him up and he knows never to push me to talk about or to my dad to me. These boundaries were respected and understood among us. But it wasn't just Nicolas and me, we had a close group of friends that we kept strong no matter what.

Our group was of 5 people, Gigi, Tiffanny, Aron, Nicolas, and I. Gigi, and Aron just got engaged and have been high-school sweethearts, they started a business together owning a small architecture office. Tiffany was a model thus she often traveled and we didn't see her a lot. She always brings back some of the goods she gets to keep from shoots. Nicolas works as an engineer with his dad for their tech company. And finally, I, Lana, work as an art director at an international advertising company.

Today, we had planned a dinner with our group at a fancy restaurant to celebrate our friends' engagement. So I had to go back home after work and get ready for the night. If I was lucky, this Friday I could leave the office before 7.

Thankfully, I left the work at 6 as I had planned to work as fast as possible between my meetings. I had done my hair last night, so all I had to do was to get dressed, do my makeup and leave.

As it was still cold in New York, I opted for black leather pants, oversized black blazer, a crisp white shirt, and some Valentino combat boots. For accessories, I wore long statement Dior earrings and a few rings. For makeup, I kept everything simple while adding a winged liner to make my eyes look cat-shaped and a lot of mascara.

As soon as I was done getting ready, I get a text from our group chat.

Nicolas - Does anyone need a ride?

Nicolas - Leaving in a few.

Tiffany - No thanks gonna come with Chris.

Gigi - Who the hell is Chris?

Tiffany - A model I met yesterday

Tiffany - Super yummy!!!

Gigi - YAS QUEEN blessing our eyes with some hotness

Aron - Chill babe

Gigi - You know I love you

Nicolas - @Lana do you need a ride?

Aron - We all know you only care about her

Me - lol yes, please

Me - I'm ready @Nicolas

Me – Don't be a jealous bitch @Aron

I type as I am smiling to myself, these people mean the world to me.

When Nicolas texted me to meet him downstairs, I quickly grabbed my clutch and went to the elevator. He was waiting in his car fixing the Bluetooth for my phone as he knows I like to DJ our rides.

"It's useless that you have a brand new car and a driver's license if you take the subway and count on me driving you around," he said jokingly as soon as I entered the car.

"No silly, I only use it for emergencies." I smile back at him as he leans to kiss me on the cheek.

"It's not a credit card L! Missed you. How are things going?" He asked starting the car.
