eddie closed the door to his house as quietly as possible, in an attempt to wake up his mother. eddie turned around to see richie still standing by the door, he raised a hand and motioned that everything was fine and that richie could leave. eddie soon found out this efforts to be quiet were useless as his mother sat at the kitchen counter, head in hands, surrounded by the homework eddie had lazily left strewn about. eddie carefully approached the woman, his hand instinctively beginning to grip the inhaler in his pocket with more force.

eddie watched his mother's large body heave upwards and downwards in a fast paced rhythm.  "where have you been, eddie-bear." his mother asked, her voice the opposite of inviting. eddie looked at the back of his mother's head, his hand moved from his inhaler to his opposite hand's wrist. the small boy's fingernails found their way into the crescent like holes he dedicated for moments like this one.

eddie scrambled for words. "n-nowhere mom- i was... i was out... w-with bev-" he instantly regretted giving away beverly's name, he stopped himself by moving his hand up to his mouth for a moment, before bringing it back down to its previous position, his opposite hand beginning to squeeze tight once more.

"beverly?" eddie's mom started, her large body beginning to slide off the small stool which seemed likely to break under her enormous weight. "beverly marsh?" she repeated herself, her tone making eddie shrink as she approached the small boy. eddie couldn't help but back up until his was pressed against the wall.

eddie nodded his head vigorously. "sh-she asked me if i wanted to go out with her and i said yes..." eddie whimpered, giving up any strong front he previously possessed in front of his mother, "i shouldn't have said yes, mom, i'm sorry... please forgive me- im sorry" eddie fumbled over his words, the grip on his wrist tightening without him knowing.

it was at that moment when eddie turned his head to see richie, still standing outside of the screen back door, watching with wide eyes. eddie shook his head violently at the boy who stepped closer to the door. eddie turned his head back to his mother who was now gripping eddie's face by his chin, "you know how sick you are eddie, you cant be messing around with girls like that." she said, spit coming from her mouth and landing on eddie's freckled face.

eddie's body shook as he looked his mother in the eyes, "i said im sorry-" 

eddie was interrupted by a hand on his wrist.

he turned his head quickly to see richie with his hand placed on eddie's wrist. eddie quickly dropped the hold on his own wrist and struggled finding any words, "rich-" eddie tried before he was yanked to the floor by the boy. 

"eddie come on." richie said quickly, grabbing the boy by the wrist and pulling him out the backdoor. richie ran with eddie's wrist still clasped in his own, ignoring sonia's constant yelling coming from the eddie's house. "what the fuck was that?" richie said quickly. eddie noticed that they were, in fact, not walking in the direction of richie's house. 

eddie ignored richie's question, "where are we going." he said, rubbing his wrist. he noticed beads of blood were forming  on it. he ignored that and, against all his better judgement, wiped it off on his shirt, staining the pristine yellow color that previously existed. eddie turned his head towards richie, he noticed the boys' fists were clenched.

"eds." richie started, turning his head towards the shorter boy, "what was that." he repeated his question. richie looked the boy up and down, then returned his gaze to his eyes, "eddie there is blood on your shirt." richie said, reaching his hand forward to lift eddie's shirt a little. when eddie flinched richie looked him in the eyes once more, "here." richie said softly, raising his own arms up, removing his shirt and handing it to eddie. "please, i know how you feel about that stuff." richie smiled.
