"Are you sure this is a good idea, Joe?"

"Of course! I wouldn't want to let Sara walk home at this ungodly hour of the night!"

Ellie was walking alongside one of her best friends, heading toward the school that they both attended. To be honest, Ellie had a bad feeling about whatever was going to happen next, but she didn't want to leave Joe alone while he went to wait for Sara. She had even promised to help Joe protect Sara a few days back when Sara first confessed about her stalker. It was so concerning to both of them that they pinky promised to keep Sara safe. Of course, Ellie didn't know it meant waking up at 10:40 at night to get Sara from school. Why was she there in the first place? I mean, really? Joe didn't seem bothered at all. He just kept on walking, heading closer and closer to the school until suddenly, they were at the front gate. There was Sara. Just looking into the Loner Pond in the middle of the Campus Grounds. Gee, how nice. Joe started to walk up to her.

"Whacha doin Sara?" Joe asked, startling her a bit.

"Joe!" Sara said with a mix of shock and relief in her voice.

"Um, I'm here too!" Ellie said with a fake pout.

"Oh, Hi Ellie. What are you doing here?" Sara seemed genuinely confused.

"You stuck around this late for clubs? I was gonna wither from waiting," Joe said with one of his classic smiles.

"Oh, you were waiting for me?"

"Well, it's fine. Listen! There's something I want to tell you!" Joe said.

"Something to tell me?"

"Yeah! My thanks!"

"Your thanks? For what...?" Sara asked, tilting her head to the side a bit.

"Oh, you know, for introducing Ellie and me! If you hadn't introduced me to her back in Kindergarten, I wouldn't have had anyone to talk to while I waited for you!" Joe said.

"But....didn't you introduce her to me?"

"Did I? I can't remember..." Joe crossed his arms and tilted his head slightly.

"Ummm," Ellie commented, quite confused by the conversation.

"Anyway! I ate a whole Donner Kebob in one bite today! I'm a real glutton!" Joe said, hands on his hips.

"No, you're not! I-I did that once and yet here I am, still healthy!" Ellie said, trying to make Joe feel better.

"Wait, really? Wow! High five, twinsy!" Joe lifted his hand for a high five, which Ellie returned.

"So, uh, guys. How long have you been standing there?" Sara asked, shifting her gaze between Joe and Ellie.

"Oh, we just got here a few minutes ago and saw you staring into the Loner pond! I dragged Ellie out so I wouldn't be lonely!" Joe said confidently.

Sara let out a sigh. At that, the trio started to head toward Sara's house as Joe continued to talk on an on about the other times he'd eaten something whole. Ellie occasionally joined in, but Sara stayed silent. Well, until they got to some random street with the one Streetlamp.

"Hey, you listening or what? I downed the thing in like a second!"

"I honestly don't care," Sara said stoically as she stopped under the lamppost.

"Aww, come on Sara! You have to admit, the one where Joe swallowed the napkin by accident WAS pretty funny," Ellie said, trying to get Sara to react.

Sara started to stare absentmindedly at the poster hanging on the side of the nearest building. It said, "Make sure to Watch for Strangers."

How ironic.

Suddenly, just as they were about to move again, Sara's eyes widened at the man standing under the other street lamp. His eyes were fixed on Sara's, and it looked like he was about to say something when Sara yelled out:

"Joe! Ellie! Run!"

With that, Sara took off running. Joe and Ellie soon started to follow behind.

"Guys! Wait up!" Ellie called. She wasn't the fastest runner, obviously.

"Here," Joe said, slowing down enough to match Ellie's pace, "I'll run with you."

Ellie knew she was blushing, but it was well hidden under the already redness of her face from the running. After a "short-run" (it felt like forever), Sara, Joe, and Ellie arrived at Sara's house.

"Pant.....Pant.....Pant....." Sara was sweating and taking huge gasps for air. So was Ellie. Both weren't physically fit, but Ellie wasn't as fast as Sara.

"Hahaha.....phew," Joe said between breaths, "We made it home.'

"..."

"Yeah, everything's going to be fine now," Ellie said, giving an encouraging smile.

"It should be all ok, now that we're here," Joe said, still smiling.

"Joe....Ellie....I'm scared," Sara said quietly, "I'm so scared....Am I going to...What if he kills me someday?"

       Joe stopped smiling

"I'm not gonna let that happen ok? Ellie isn't either, right Ellie?" Joe said with seriousness in his voice.

"Y-yeah! Call on us anytime! We'll come with a boatload of freshmen!" Ellie said, putting on her brave face while trying not to faint from exhaustion.

"..."

Sara seemed to be thinking to herself, which wasn't surprising. She did that quite often

"Well, your parents are waiting, Sara!" Joe said, back to his usual self.

"Yeah..." Sara replied, looking back at the house.

"Hey, Joe? Ellie?" Sara said, looking back at the two, "....... be careful."

"Yeah, we will!" Joe said.

"See you tomorrow at school!" Ellie exclaimed before starting the walk with Joe back to their houses. They lived relatively close to each other which was convenient when it came to going to and coming back from school.

"I'm worried about Sara," Ellie said, "I know she has a stalker and all, but she just isn't acting normal. I mean, she wasn't talking for a majority of our conversation, and when it was time for her to say goodbye, she looked like she was scared to go inside."

"Yeah, I know what you mean," Joe said, sticking his hands in his pockets, "It'd be nice to see her happy agai-"

Just then a scream cut Joe off.

"Sara!!" Both Joe and Ellie yelled as they turned around and ran back towards the house.
