It was one of those rare missions that required both Mukuro and Kyoya to go together. Tsuna always had to remind them that they had to work together. They usually brushed that off since they would anyway. It was a simple infiltration and put down mission, it wasn’t anything special.
Yet when they got there everything instantaneously got much harder than they knew it would be. For instance, there were a lot more people than they were led to believe. They wouldn’t fault Tsuna for the false information, but they would regret not coming fully prepared. Mukuro and Kyoya stood back to back looking at the enemies that surrounded them.
“Kufufu, this is troublesome.” Mukuro mused. They both had blood on them from both their own injuries and killing those around them. Kyoya grunted in agreement, narrowing his eyes. A moment later the two jumped back into the fray, this was their mission and they refused to fail. They were on opposite sides of the room from each other when explosions started to shake the building from below them. Mukuro looked to Kyoya. Kyoya had the same expression. It had been a trap. The moment they moved to start getting out of the building the enemies they had been fighting became even more aggressive, keeping them in the building as the explosions got closer.
An explosion from beneath them caved the floor in sending everything to the ground below.
Crows gathered around the area once the explosions stopped and everything settled. Their cawing echoed around the rubble and over bodies of those unknown. Kyoya groaned as he slowly got up onto his hands and knees. Blood dripped from his chin which ran from an open wound. His ears still rang and his vision blurry. Shaking his head a bit to clear his vision he sat up onto his feet looking around the area. He hazily remembered what happened, Mukuro’s laugh echoed in his head which sent him into a panic as he looked around the area.
“Mukuro!” He called out struggling to get to his feet. He didn’t receive an answer from the illusionist. Staggering over to a pile of rubble he continued to look among the bodies. So far he had only seen bodies of the enemies. He continued to stagger around taking brakes, leaning against large pieces of rubble. As he leaned against a piece of rubble his eyes spied dark blue and the glint of metal. His blood ran cold as he made his way over as fast as he could dreading the worst. When he got there he could only stand there in shock at what he saw. Mukuro was half trapped under large pieces of rubble, blood was coming out of the illusionist’s mouth and his bangs were over his eyes hiding them from view. Kyoya stumbled over falling to his knees next to Mukuro.
Now that he got a better look, it scared him. “Mukuro?” Kyoya questioned shakily as he hesitantly touched the pale neck of the younger male. He felt a very weak heartbeat, leaning closer he could hear the illusionist struggling to breathe properly. Kyoya fished out his phone hoping it wasn’t broken. Thankfully, it wasn’t he sent a quick emergency alert to Tsuna before calling the local first responders. He gave them the exact location and prompted them to get there as fast as they could. His phone died just as the lady he had been talking to said they were on their way. Nodding to himself he turned his attention back to Mukuro. He brushed the dark blue hair out of Mukuro’s eyes.
“Come on Mukuro, open your eyes,” Kyoya urged. Mukuro coughed, a bit more blood trickling out of his mouth, but he didn’t open his eyes. “Stupid pineapple, open your eyes!” he demanded this time. Mukuro’s eyes cracked open slightly, the kanji in his red eye was faded, almost not there, and the shine in the other was the same way. The mist guardian was barely hanging onto his life. Kyoya swallowed the lump in his throat.
“Mukuro, don’t you dare die,” Kyoya stated. Mukuro managed to smirk weakly but made no move to speak. Kyoya knew Tsuna and the others wouldn’t arrive for a few hours so his only hope was for the first responders to get their butts in gear.
After a while, he faintly heard the first responders working their way through the rubble. Kyoya sighed in relief and looked at Mukuro who was closing his eyes.
“Mukuro don’t you dare!” Kyoya growled.
“Sorry... Kyo…” Mukuro managed to force out of his blood filled throat as his eyes closed fully and he went limp.
“MUKURO!” Kyoya exclaimed with eyes wide with actual tears running down his face and falling onto Mukuro’s.
