Somewhere in the downtown of a large city, it was a cold, wet, rainy day near the end of winter. Very few people were out, and the ones that were, bundled up underneath umbrellas. Such was the case with a duo currently in the middle of the street. The taller male carried a rainbow umbrella and walked along calmly, smiling slightly at his companion. The smaller boy was bouncing around, splashing in puddles, and laughing in delight. They were followed by a girl nearly the same height as the first male, and she carefully skirted all the puddles and the splashing of the small boy.
"Zi, we really need to hurry. " Grey quietly scolded his friend as they walked along. He noticed that Zion was already soaked despite his rain gear and sighed. "I hope you brought extra clothes." Zion laughed and jumped into another puddle. "Of course I did!" His voice was happy and care-free, a contrast to Grey's quiet, unsure tone. Cassidy walked quickly to catch up with Grey. "Are we almost there yet?" She mewed curiously, looking around for the house they were headed for. "Almost." Grey sighed, looking up at the sky and wishing once again that the rainy season would end.
In the same part of town, not too far off, Dakota was trudging through the rain in only a hoodie, his hair and clothing soaked. He didn't really care how cold it was nor was he interested in any passerby. He kept moving until he came to a house. He knocked on the door. It opened slowly at first, but swung open all the way. "Dakota!" exclaimed August. "You're going to catch a cold! You're soaking wet! Come in, hurry!" Dakota stepped inside, shaking water out of his long ponytail. "I'm fine." he sighed. "It's not like I have an umbrella anyway." August shook his head. "Take off your hoodie. I have some clothes you can wear and we'll throw yours in the dryer. Kaaria, will you get Dakota a towel?" He yelled the last sentence. "Kaaria's already here?" asked Dakota. August nodded cheerfully, his wings fluttering gently. "Yup, I think mostly everyone is here. We're just missing Alsephina and Gideon." Kaaria stepped into the room, holding a towel his reddish fox ears flicking back and forth in curiosity. "Hey Kotes." he said, tossing the towel. We're almost ready to start, just as soon as the rest of them show up."
Dakota changed clothes and it actually felt nice to be dry. He thoroughly dried his hair and when he came out of the bathroom Alsephina was there. "When are you going to let me do your hair?" she asked. "Never." August laughed. Dakota plopped down on the couch. "I can't believe I came to this movie night." Alsephina continued. "My parents didn't seem to care, which is already weird enough, but how on earth do you expect all of us to decide on one movie August." August shrugged. "It's just for fun." he said. November moved to sit closer to August, burying his face into his wings. He pulled out his notebook. "Your wings are so soft!" He wrote. August laughed again. Then Gideon stepped into the room. "I'm here!" he said. "And I think our other friends are outside. Maybe they're lost?" August stood up. "I'll go see!" Dakota shoved him back down on the couch. "You'll get your dumb butt sick out there." he said. August giggled and sat back down. Dakota went over to the door and went outside. He saw some people and approached them. "Are you Grey?" He naturally assumed an intimidating stance, nearly glaring at him.
Grey nods, looking at Dakota warily, taking a small step back. "Yeah, I'm Grey." He responded quietly."And this is Zion and Cassidy," He gestured to the other two, trying hard not to seem intimidating.
Dakota realized he was being scary, and did his best to curve back a little, slouching and despite his efforts probably just seeming more scary and sullen. "You're here for August's movie night. Good grief, he's accumulating more friends every day." He gestured to the house. "Come inside, if you want. Unless you'd rather stay out in the rain."
Zion perked up but Cassidy elbowed him in the ribs, hissing, "No you are not staying out here, Zara would kill you!" Zion laughed and shrugged in response. Grey relaxes somewhat. "Thanks. Oh and there should be a group of.... Three? Coming soon. It's the rest of our group, they left later than we did." He offered a sheepish smile.
Dakota shrugged. "Whatever." He leans forward into Zion's face, moving past Grey. "Do you like the rain?" he asked, his voice and face unreadable.
Zion nods, unfazed by Dakota. "Yeah, I do! I love playing in the rain and splashing the puddles." He smiles, completely at ease and not at all intimidated by Dakota. Cassidy face- palms and Grey moves away, still a bit wary of Dakota. Just then, something(someone) small and clearly fluffy comes running down the street and bumps into Zion, making the bunny stumble. "Kacey!! Come back here!" A male voice calls from further down the street. There are two other, smaller, figures with the taller one- who is the one that called out.
Dakota felt almost surprised that Zion wasn't intimidated. "Me too." he replied, much to everyone's surprise. "It's kinda peaceful." He glanced back down the street. "Are those the friends you were talking about?" he asked, realizing that he was getting August's clothes wet. "I should go inside before I get another scolding from Mrs. Mom about catching a cold." He gestures to the door. "Come on, he's probably bouncing on the couch impatiently."
"Yeah these are them. And coming!" Zion quips back, easily taking responsibility for the small group. Kacey peeks out from behind Zion, innocent eyed and small. He doesn't say anything but rather shyly smiles.
Dakota looks down at Kacey. "How old is this kid?" he asked. He knows his voice naturally comes out as angry, aggressive, making him sound sarcastic. He reaches his hand out, almost pushing Zion out of the way, reaching forward for Kacey.
