No one asked but let's do a Q and A!!!
Q. What inspired you to create your characters as you did?
A. I noticed that of a lot of teen fiction, specifically dystopian novels. There's usually only one time of female heroine. The super sarcastic and beautiful one who shows no emotion and basically flawless in everything she does. And that's great but I didn't want Clara to be like that. I wanted to show Clara as a strong character without being physically tough. I wanted her to depend on people and ask for help and show emotions and I hope I have achieved that. For male love interest, I noticed most leads are kinda rude to the main character, acting all tough when really they are just cinnamon rolls on the inside. I really dislike the strong possessive in love interests (NO SHADE TO ANYONE I SWEAR). I think a little possessiveness is cute but too much I just see it as suffocating. I wanted to show a different male lead. One who was not confident, a little shy, and incompletely unexperienced in dating and feelings and I hope that's okay.
Q. Why didn't Clara and Theo end up together? :(
A. They both like each other but are both terribly inexperienced in dating. For Theo, this technically was his first real kiss.
Theo: I think it's my second Miss Author.....
It was his second real kiss and he doesn't know how to deal with the emotions and doesn't know what to do. Which why he never put a label on his and Clara's relationship. With Clara, she's just a maid. She's also never been in a relationship much less in one with a prince. It's all new to her too. Plus with the Nine and everything and the whole destroy the royal family. It just didn't make sense for them to end up together.
Q. So Clara and Captain Darius ;)?
A. Okay, first off no. I wanted to tease a love triangle just to test it out. So I put the stereotypical brooding, I hate you but maybe not, the attractive second male lead. And I'm not gonna lie. I see why authors do it, there's something about a brooding bad boy we all love. But I think we all know who Darius has his eye on. But I will say Darius likes Clara way more than he did in the beginning. I mean maybe not anymore seeing that Ian, Peter, and Zak stormed into the castle and made a fool of him and his guards.
Q. Did you always planned to have the plot twist be that Soto was actually the target, not Theo?
A. To be honest, I never plan anything. I just write and when it came to that scene. I decided right then and there that Soto was going to be the target. So to answer that question, it is a yes and no.
Q. What are something you wrote but changed your mind afterward?
A. I initially wanted to add love triangle between Frederick, Clara, and Theo just to make it a full Red Queen storyline but I thought nah, Frederick is too much in love with Rachael. I also never planned for Darius being in the story as much as he did, it just kinda happened.
