Chapter Two

America's PoV

When I was on the way to my room and out of the sight of the guards, I opened the small box with the ring. It was so beautiful! I still couldn't realize that I was engaged to the king of Illéa! That seemed all so impossible. I was a little sad that I couldn't call May but Maxon was right. If I call mom or May now, all residents of Carolina would know it in ten minutes and all in Illéa in 30 minutes. May would be so exited and she would want to know the whole story with all details. But I definitely wouldn't tell her all of them. Just a few. Then I thought of dad. It hurts me that he couldn't be with me. He would have been so proud of me. I felt like I would exactly know what the would say. I hope he would be with me like this always and I would never loose him completely. I also missed queen Amberly. She would have loved me like her own daughter. I'm sure Maxon missed her at least as much as I do but together we could go through this. Once I thought about Maxon, I started to grin like an idiot instantly. Would this ever end? It wouldn't always be polite to start grinning wide if I'm sitting in a meeting and start grinning just because I'm thinking about Maxon. I think I would miss Clarkson too. Just a little bit but it would become hard for Maxon and me to step into the roles of king and queen immediately and not having time to prepare. And I also didn't know whether we could go on a honeymoon. But before I could start worrying too much, I reached my room.

I was surprised when I found only Mary after I opened the door. I knew that Lucy would probably be in the hospital wing with Aspen but I had no clue where Anne could be. Then I saw that Mary was crying and I thought No, No, please not.

"W – W – Where is Anne?", I asked quietly because I was afraid of the answer. Mary looked up and wiped the tears away. She tried to be strong but she failed miserably.

"She – She – She", Mary tried to explain but she broke into tears again. I pulled her in an embrace and whispered:"I will always remember her and..." We both heard the door opening and turned around. Lucy entered the room. She saw our swollen faces and whispered:"No"

She ran towards us, hugged us both and started to cry too. "I will miss her so much", she said. I nodded silently.

Mary went to my closet and said:"Let's get you ready for dinner, Lady America."

"Please, Mary and Lucy, just call me America", I said. Mary took out a beautiful light pink dress with lace and short skirt. "That's Anne's last made dress."

"I absolutely love it", I said, touching the lace.

We went to the bathroom and I put the dress on. Lucy did my make – up. "Would you like your hair up or down, America?", Mary asked. "I'd like it up", I said. Mary pinned my hair up. I was a bit worried how Aspen would react when I'm going to tell him about the engagement but then I thought that I shouldn't be worried. I love Maxon and he is in love with Lucy. Suddenly, I got an idea. I could ask Aspen whether he'd like to walk me down the aisle instead of my father. When Mary was done with my hair she added some jewellery. I took matching earrings out of the box. Then I remembered the ring:"By the way, do you have a small pocket for me?"

"Of course", Lucy said and took one. Mary gave me white high heels and then I was ready.

I went to my old dress and took the box with the ring out of a hidden pocket. I looked at the clock. I got roughly one hour until dinner. "I'll go to see the prince, no, the king" I told my maids and I was about to leave the room when someone knocked at the door and Maxon entered. When he saw me, his jaw dropped. I smiled:"I just wanted to go to see you now."

"Let's go!", Maxon said and took my hand. I waved at my maids and we left the room.
