where we start to fall

the dust road was just visible from the flashlights bobby and Noah carried. Alison had carried herself off to bobby's side.

the relationship between the two was uncertain, they had been the best of friends for years but a little while back something changed. Lydia was unsure what but the tone in her voice when they spoke over the phone about the boy had become somewhat considerably more love sick and happy. they would often argue but end up laughing at the other over the smallest things. they were strange together but whatever they were to each other clearly worked.

the time that they spent in their own world never really effected Noah. although he never quite understood what bobby felt, or why he felt the need to act the way he did and be so over protective of Alison. she had never shown any sign of needing help to handle situations or to get out of them, she was strong and mature, and could one hundred percent beat the hell out of somebody if they needed it. something he had witnessed her do a few times now.

Lydia however was in awe of the relationship bobby and Alison shared. she had often longed for that sort of story book romance. not the prince and princess love, the kind of romance that was more realistic. where no matter what happened, at the end of the day the love and enjoyment was there. she believed in soulmates, not that she would admit it. she believed that out there we have another half, another part of our soul that we are destined to find, the choices you make along the way just determine how long it will take you. the thought that she might be so lucky to find someone like Bobby in her journey seemed as unrealistic to her as it did to Noah. but still the hope lived within her.

"so has she always been like this?" Lydia giggles taking larger steps to keep up with Noah's pace. he lets out a small laugh watching as his two friends laced their arms around the other.

"they've always been close" his accent thick and pure, a melody to Lydia's ears. she was always madly in love with the way her cousin and her family spoke. she would practice to herself so that she could confuse Alison over the phone whenever she called. She never managed to perfect the accent and after a while she stopped trying because it was so bad.

"yeah but look at them" she starts, her eyes lusting after the image before her. "they're in love" she smiles, sighing unintentionally loud.

"you've never been in love?"

"i've never had the opportunity" she moves her gaze to Noah. who was more surprised than anything. a girl as beautiful as her and yet she had never fallen in love? it didn't  seem possible. surely she had had boyfriends before? sure she was young but he doubted that she of all people hadn't known the love of someone else, or hadn't had the opportunity to love someone else.

"but you have had boyfriends before right?"

his tone caused her little offence. the shock in his voice made the truth sound weird, like somehow she wasn't normal all because she had never had a boyfriend.

"no, why is that a bad thing?" she laughed turning back to the pair in front of her. she could see the lake up ahead. the moon sparkling like lights on the wide open lake. the sound of water rushing over stones and rocks passing by. the ground beneath her feet becoming more sloppy the closer they came to the creek, walking along the marsh land.

"no, its just weird to think that you've never felt anything like that" he gestures with the light in his hands towards bobby and Alison. the brunette turns back, her eyebrows raised, signalling that she was about to return his cold tone.

"and you have i take it?"

"no, but i have tried"

"you've tried? whats that supposed to mean?"
