"Lydia?" she looks up at him with a small smile. the house was filled with a strong scent of cinnamon and caramel, the tea lights had been scented. not that Noah had known that at first. She dropped her coat to the floor as he lays the blanket down on the mattress. staring for a moment, in the flickering light he could spot small freckles dotted out across her frame.

he moved closer to her his mind clear where as hers was swimming. her breathing quickened as he ran his fingers along her collar bone gently. tracing her body, as if he couldn't quite believe she was real.

removing the shirt from his shoulders, she found a scar on his upper arm. biting down on her lower lip she ran her fingers across it, watching as he visibly tensed under her touch.

he reached back down for the shirt but she stopped him. in his eyes she could see the shame. she moved closer to him pressing her lips to the scar, feeling his arms release their tension.

he was uncomfortable because he had been marked with memories of a life he had tried to escape, her seeing them was like a reminder for both of them, in his mind, of how different and wrong for each other they were. but to her, none of that mattered. she loved him, the rest was just...unimportant to her.

"i love you" she whispered hesitantly meeting his eyes. without an answer he leaned down and pressed his lips to hers, feeling her body shake from the cold, he pulled the blanket around them before throwing them both down onto the mattress. the night passed in a blur, a happy blur. both engulfed by the others embrace, neither willing to let go of the moment for even a second.

it was like they were drowning, it wasn't painful, and for the first time the world around them was silent, there was no coming back up for air, they didn't need to. they didn't want to.

so maybe it wasn't drowning. maybe there was a word to describe how they had fallen at each others feet. but both were too consumed to find it.

Morning came bursting through the gaps in the window, small golden beams of sunlight peering through the boards and shone down onto the girls face. she inhaled softly before sitting up, pulling the blanket up to cover her chest. her hair had dried and there was no doubt that it was a complete mess. in sheer panic she pulled Noah's watch up into her hands and scanned it for the time. 8:36am, she was going to be late home.

God did she even lock her door?

she pulled the bag over to her side rifling through it to find her underwear. slipping on the soft fabric she pulled her dress over her head, flattening out the creases. she stole one last glance at Noah before kissing his forehead and running outside. shutting the door gently behind her asshe spun she found herself faced with Mason.

uh oh.

she gulped watching as disappointment stung his features, he held his arm out to his car beside the truck, a black 67 impala. shaking his head the whole way back to her house. she tried to avoid having a conversation with him but the silence was killing him.

"you had everyone worried!"

"i was fine-"

"yes i'm sure, you look fine" he retorted. She tried to pin it on jealousy but she knew it was only because he cared about her, which he had made clear. especially considering while Noah was missing he promised to keep her informed.

"they've got everyone looking for you, you know? then when no one could find you Alison accused me of-"

"yeah well she was wrong and i'll be sure to let her know-"

"i promised to keep your secret Lydia! but you need to start acting like there isn't a secret to keep!"

Lydia turned to him with force, an anger building up inside her. was he worried for her or for himself because with the way he was acting it seemed more to her like it was the latter. she scoffed trying to hold back the snarky comments forming on her tongue. the world passing them by avoided the view of the car, no eyes met hers as they passed through town and no one dared meet masons.
